Or maybe its more like glass shattering.
What I mean is... after a significant idle period, when I access anything on my thunderbolt drive, i hear a noise from it.
at first i thought it was some cool sound effect... but since i've not found any documentation to support that it has any sound effect option, i am beginning to get worried that this is not normal.
i've attached a short, 500kb WAV file to this post so you can hear what i hear, right after my mouse double-click sound.
can anyone else who has a thunderbolt adapter for the seagate goflex, tell me if they hear similar noise from their drive?
thanks in advance!

I have a Seagate expansion disk (USB not thunderbolt) that makes the same noise.
I was also a bit concerned when I first got the drive as a grinding, grating sound is not a noise you want to hear fom your new drive even if only for a second. I still don't really know what causes it but I think it is "normal" for some seagate drives although I have other external drives including seagate drives that never make this sound.
Type "Seagate chi" into google it autocompletes to Seagate chirp, or Seagate chirping sound so it is quite common.
But I'm keeping the receipt and making sure I have a copy of the data just in case.
