Jumping onto this thread late, but hope someone is still reading. For anyone who is having this problem, what firmware revision does your drive report in Seagate Dashboard?
We bought the GoFlex USB3 3TB drive at CostCo, and it worked great, including through reboots. Liked it so much, we picked up another one, and guess what? It turns off every time we restart the PC. Thought we had a bum drive, so bought another and, same problem. Tried all the paths everyone else has: power settings, sleep mode, etc., to no avail. Tried swapping power cables, USB ports, etc., still consistent results: our original GoFlex drive works fine, the replacement ones turn off on restart and will not wake up without unplugging and replugging.
On investigation, my wife found this interesting difference in Seagate Dashboard. The working drive has a firmware version of 0D.1.C, and both non-working drives have firmware revision of 0D.1.9. Hmmm. Everything else seems the same. Note that SeaTools reports the same revision for both: CC9E. I can't explain the discrepancy between the two tools. Maybe one is reporting the firmware for the controller and the other the firmware for the disk itself, dunno.
I'm hoping someone else can chime in with their experience.
Also, the problem, at least in my case, seems to be USB3.0 specific; if I plug the drive into a USB2.0 connector, it comes back fine on reboot (although with slower performance, obviously).
I'm going to go back to CostCo to see if I can get lucky and end up with one of the drives with newer firmware (fourth time's a charm?).

Thanks for posting this information. I have this same problem with my GoFlex drive.
If it is plugged into a USB 3 port before the computer is booted or after it is restarted, the drive is not detected (nor does the drive light come on). I need to unplug the drive and plug it back it for it to be recognized. This makes the drive mostly useless for its intended purpose.
The firmware on my drive is 0D.1.9. I would very much like to see a firmware update for this drive.

If you scroll through the responses, it looks like there might be a firmware update available (though apparently not publicly). I'm emailing Seagate support to see if I can get ahold of it. The situation described (involving an Intel Ivy Bridge motherboard) seems to match ours.
I'll post if I get more information.

I saw that Amazon comment too and I also raised a ticket with Seagate support. They replied the very next business day with a link and password for a firmware update. I'm not sure why they don't make this update widely available or why they aren't responding here in their own forums but that's their choice I guess.
Anyway, the firmware update worked for me so I suggest anyone else with this problem to raise a support ticket with them. Goodluck!

How did you go about doing that? I sent email to seagate support this weekend. So far...crickets.
You can send me your drive's serial number and your shipping address (for verification) via a private message here on the forums and I'll get the update out to you.

I'm having the exact same issue with the intel P8-Z68 system i built in June. No drive at powerup but fine after unplug/replug.
AskTheLeaf, I'll PM you with my info in hopes you can set me up too.

Thanks a bunch! My drive now comes up fine after booting.
I'm so glad to hear that it's working for you now! Let me know if you need anything else
