Hello guys,
Today when I turned on my computer my HDD was asking to do chkdsk. Mind you I shut down my computer properly yesterday and this was the first time I've seen this message. Without further to do, I let it scan; however, during the process I was seeing the message "Deleting index files" I got a little worred about the CHKDSK deleting the data of my hard drive, mind you, I have some very important files on it and this HDD is my only backup for my desktop. I quickly turned off the HDD and turned off my computer.
I turned it back on let it boot; without my HDD plugged in. While in Windows I go to my computer and notice my HDD is unreadable and requesting to be formatted. Everytime I click on my drive it's saying, "The file or directorty is corrupted and unreadable." I restarted the computer after I've seen the message and let the CHKDSK scan. I've attactched the screen of the process. After it was completed( I think...) windows booted, and the HDD is still displaying it's unreadable.
How did it manage to get to this? My HDD was working fine until today. I did the SeaTools "Short Drive self test" and Short generic and they all have passed, deceting no problems. I really need my HDD working, does anyone know how I can fix this so it can be readable again. I have a lot of data on it and can't afford to buy a new HDD and try to recover the amount of data of it.
Sorry for the long wall of text and if anyone knows a soultion, please reply ASAP!
Thanks!

Run chkdsk / f and let it finish this time.
As another user pointed out, if your important files are only on one drive then you do not have a backup.
Backup means a second copy on another drive.

I'll let the chkdsk finish this time. Oh it is my backup. Only problem is it has my main HDD backed up on it and some other files on it, which are not on my main HDD. My main HDD is fine (Thank the Lord) just not the external one; which is the one I'm having problems with.

just noticed that Seagate let's you get away with saying "Thank the Lord",.
They even censor W. T. F. which is bad news for the World Trade Federation
how that can offend anyone who isn't already familiar with the abbreviation I don't know.

Great news! MiniTool Partition fixed it. I had to wait 26 hours for the "Surface Test" procedure to finish, and it seemed to have fixed the courruption on my HDD. I can actually access my HDD without the error coming up. Some files are missing, but it's better than nothing.
I just thank the tech support Kimberly for giving me bad advice on how I should fix my HDD. Telling me I should format it then do long test run to see if there is a problem. Glad I don't take advice from Women.
