I am quite curious as to what Seagate plans to do in supplying 4TB hard drives. About six months ago 4TB external hard drives came on the market and I was able to pick up two of them at the affordable price of $200 US each. I’ve been using them ever since with no problems. At the same time, you have many 3 TB and 2 TB external drives in the same family on the market in the same size box.
Unexpectedly for me, the Segate 4 TB drives are not commonly available. I purchased them at Best Buy which has not carried them since the week when I bought my two.
Has there been a design problem with the 4 TB hard drive? A quality production problem? Or is there a new technology being developed and Seagate is letting the inventory of the existing family of drives draw down before offering new products.
