Add me to the all too many users of this product who is having issues with the Dashboard not loading at boot up. My system is Win 7. I've read that others using Vista are having the same problem, so it seems as if the operating system isn't the issue.
When booting, the Seagate Dashboard does not load. That is, almost always doesn't load. Strangely, sometimes (rarely) the program will load on it's own after sitting for some time after I receive the message that Memeo can't proceed without the Dashboard.
What is most disappointing is Seagate support dept. I've called twice, hoping that the 1st person was clueless. Turns out they both were. Neither had heard of the issue & seemingly didn't really care to learn about it. Both telling me the "fix" is to do what I have been doing... Manually loading the Dashboard. Not that big of a deal until I do as I did the other day. Booted the computer, killed the Memeo message, got into the project I was in a rush to get to & then forgot that I didn't load the program. Setting me up for a missed up backup!
Bottom line, if you're having this same issue, you're not alone. And to this point, Seagate support area is a total waste of time. Sad considering how terrific I had always believed this dept. to be.

Does it say the service doesn't start? What happens if you open the program and tell it to not start up with your computer...basically telling it you don't wanna see the seagate dashboard window when you start up your computer....?
The memeo software should still work regardless of whether the seagate dashboard is working properly or not...it's not a requirement to have both working or installed even...I've used it previously without the dashboard installed.
Try an uninstall/reinstall if you haven't already.
If you disable the dashboard from opening when you start up your computer, check to see if memeo is 1) Still recognizing your drive and 2) still running a backup for you.
If you receive any errors with anything, what do they specifically say?
Also, check for any updates for the dashboard software...Had you recently been prompted to update the dashboard software and started having problems after that? Had you ever done an update for the dashboard software at any point at all?
Was the dashboard previously working ok and now all of a sudden it isn't?

Although I sincerely appreciate your attempt to assist me, I'm afraid you've asked several questions that make no sense to me.
1st, besides the fact that I can discover no way to disable the Dashboard via Seagate's software (& yes, the Dashboard is part of the Windows Startup files), why would I wish to turn it off? My whole complaint centers on the program not loading.
I believe you're looking for issues that aren't in play. Simply put, the Dashboard is not loading at startup. Never has! Once I manually load it, all works as it was designed.
As you have correctly referenced, the Memeo & Seagate software are 2 different products. The "error" occurs when Memeo can't perform the backup because it can't see the yet to be loaded Dashboard. So again, once I manually load the Dashboard, all drives are recognized & all backups are preformed properly.
As for reinstalling the software, I have done this twice on the advice of Seagate's support desk. A recommendation I sadly believe was their excuse to get to the next call. Not wishing to work through an actual fix. The software is up to date.
Finally, as I have researched this forum, I've discovered that there are several posts from users of the product that are contending with the same issue. Which doubles up my frustration level due to the support desk stating they haven't heard of this issue before. Clearly there is some sort of conflict going on here. And it doesn't seem to be my Win 7 operating system. Vista users have weighed in with the same complaint.
Again, thanks so much for your willingness to assist, but my hope is that I can read some sort of reply that answers more questions than are asked. That is, to the extent that any answers currently exist. Sure hope so. As I mentioned in my initial post, I'm scared that I will boot the computer 1 day, forget to load the Dashboard, suffer a crash & be left with older backups than I can tolerate.

Try using Seagate Dashboard instead.
It runs a bit differently than Memeo but it backs up the exact same files.
Really the big difference is that it runs on a schedules vs. constantly in the background like memeo...and it doesn't rely on another program (like dashboard) in order to function.
You can always run a manual backup with the "backup now" button if you want a backup to run right then.
It's definitley a good alternative...
unfortunately with programs...they don't always agree with every system out there :/
But I would definitley recommend trying the other program just to ensure that your files DO get backed up without you having to worry about remembering the other program until some sort of update might resolve the issue you're having.
ALSO! Just a note, I'm not giving up on this, I'm going to see if I can find any other sort of recommendations for you...just giving you an alternative to make sure you're files are safe and secure in the meantime...>_<;;

I was having the same problem you described. I stumbled upon your message after Googling the problem. I was able to resolve the issue on my Windows 7 machine by going into my firewall (I'm using Norton Security Suite) and changing the Firewall access configuration for Seagate DBAgent.exe from "Auto" to "Allow".
