Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

My external 1.5TB hard disk keeps on disconnecting after 5-10 mins after connecting or instantly disconnects if I try to cut, copy, paste, delete or do something else from/to the HDD.

Please help me.

I need to copy some large 50-60Gb files but i cant copy even 1KB of them :smileysad:

Thanks.

Re: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

I had a similar issue with my 1.5TB goflex desk connected to my readyshare router, but I can't reproduce the fault when connected to my laptop so maybe my problem is with the router.

Anyway, for your problem, maybe there's a filesystem problem or maybe there's a device driver problem. Does it pop up any message when it disconnects?

In device manager does it show any errors under disk drives or under Universal Serial Bus Controllers?

In Disk Management, how does it show up? (btw. you didn't say but I'm assuming you're using windows)

It couldn't hurt fixing filesystem errors using chkdsk

Re: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

1.Yes i am using Windows

2.No error comes when it disconnects..if i am in its directory via windows explorer or i am copying some file or something Windows Explorer doesnt responds and my pc hangs until windows explorer restarts.

3.No errors in device manager

4.In disk management it shows up like

L Is my External Disk

5.I cant use chkdsk..as i said i cant perform any functions..if i start using chkdsk it disconnects and Windows Explorer crashes :smileysad:

Are the other disks E:, F:, G:, H:  card readers or something? It seems unusual for disconnected drives to show in disk management.

I assume that if you scroll down in the lower pane to the L: drive it all looks as normal as it does in the top pane, so I really don't know what the problem is.

I had a problem with the context menus one time where if I right clicked in an explorer window it would lock up, but you say that even if you try to run something in a command window it crashes.

Can you try it on another machine?

Just to clarify something, when you tried to run chkdsk, was that from a command prompt or from Windows Explorer?

Re: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

Thanks kenji57.

I'd add, please try using chkdsk from the command prompt.

Definitely try another machine.

Try reloading the USB drivers.

Do you have another USB cable that you can try?

Is the USB cable firmly connected? Or does it sort of jiggle and wiggle in the port?

Re: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

1.IF i try running chkdsk there are some problems

1.I takes a lot of time

2.Errors start coming which say files are unreadable and if i try to go into the directoy of the external HDD it says access is denied.

I will try another machine soon and reply again

Reloading USB drivers didn't help

No i dont have any other USB cable nor does the cable jiggle and wiggle in the port.It is firm.

Bump....

There is one more problem now. When i try to open some specific folders..7 in all..are not accessible...I try to go into those folders, windows explorer crashes,pc laggs and problems happen.

If i try t copy those files using normal windows explorer the windows closes automatically after "Discovering Files".

I tried using teracopy but while it, it comes that access to the folder is denied and teracopy stops copying there,

Any solutions?

EDIT - I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT I AM HAVING CRC ERRORS WHEN I TRY TO GO INTO THOSE SPECIFIC FOLDERS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Re: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB automatically keeps disconnecting

Looking over all the steps you've taken (minus replacing the cable), it all points unfortunately to corrupted data. At this point it's best to run data recovery software to see if you can rescue your information, unless you have another backup somewhere.

There's free data recovery software available on the internet, or you can use ours, which is available here:
