Well, I'm not sure if this kind of answer should be reported to somewhere higher or is this just company policy.
I've had problems with GFdesk2TBusb3'es for 2 years now.
I tried to get problems fixed back then here:
Just lost one big video file, which corrupted presumably because drive ejected itself once again.
This was with 5.0.1 drivers and fw-adapter.
Alan,

then what I quoted at the top on 07-15-2011.
Latest drivers (5.1.1) are dated as 03-09-2011.
Can you confirm that goFlexes should now work without problems with fw-adapter, but still not with usb3 adapter?
With Gauge or without it?
Usb3 should be fully downwards compatible with usb2 and since macs (even today) does not have usb3 ports, seagate's usb3 adapter should berecognised by mac as just plain old usb2 adapter.
If this isn't the case, is the reason for this that seagate's adapter isn't fully downwards compatible or is it the seagate's drivers that mess up the system?

Just to let everybody know, I contacted Seagate's support and they gave me instantly fw-adapters to both of my usb3-fgDesks.
So, finally Seagate seems to have dealt with the problem.

Sorry to jump in on this but, I have come in at the end of all these conversations, so apologize for asking questions that may have already been discussed. I too have a problems with a new Seagate GF 2TB usb3 external drive. I am new to a Mac and only had it since Xmas (iMac 2.5Ghz i5) and have just bought this drive to back up photos etc. I am not too sure how I got to this point of setting up hd with Time Machine, but now seem to have same problems lots of others are reporting: drive keeps freezing and not letting me stop / quit it in Finder. I am connected with the USB 3.0 to 2.0 connector that came with it (also, there is no CD in box); reading up on lots of other problems being reported (not just this forum), I am not clear on whether the issue is the Seagate Software or the usb cable. Could anybody possibly clarify this for me please and maybe advise which is the best route to follow. Several people mention buying the fw800 connector, but this is added price now. Others mention deleting the software (but I am not too confident on best way forward with this).
I was hoping somebody out there may be able offer me some assistance as I currently have a 'redundant' hd so have no back up of my system.
Many thanks

How do you disable the Seagate drivers afte installation?

Bleh, I have that problem too. The drive was installed in September of last year and is used as Time Machine on an iMac. It worked fine until last week when I noticed it was missing and TM showed no backups for a few days. I continued working and then suddenly got a dialog box that said I should eject the drive instead of unplugging it..or words to that effect. Checked cables and all was okay and could not get the drive to reappear even after unplugging the USB cable and reinserting.
Front lights looked normal..didn't pay much attention to them actually. So I powered down the drive then after spin down reapplied power. Drive came back up normally, reappeared on the desk top on the Mac and got busy on the backup which progressed correctly. Then a couple of days later..apparently in the MIDDLE of a backup/update, the same thing happened. This time Time Machine advised me that the drive had been removed and the backup had failed.
Just a few minutes ago I had to do the power reapply again--to catch up on backups and all went well. But there's something going on here and I just thought you ought to know. Anything I can try to narrow down the cause? I can replace the drive but if I do that I would go to another product/brand just to eliminate any design variables. But you should know that what the others have experienced here are probably real events.
I am running a VERIFY on that drive now through the disk utilities and will let you know if I get any soft failures but I would predict that all will go okay. In that case I will not post but will be looking for your reflections on this frustrating problem.

Running verify caused the drive to remove itself--i.e., unmount with the message:
The disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before unplugging it or turning it off.
I wonder if we don't have a power supply or power supply interface issue here? Maybe?

There's nothing wrong with USB 3.0. Seagate just installed bad software, so remove it as per this post.

How did you get rid of the seagate storage gauge?? All of my drives are unplugged but it wont let me erase bc it says that it is 'in use'??
