TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagete FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

Hello, I'm from Brazil, and i bought a HDD Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3Tb (3.5", with external power supply), and when i arrived and tried to play my movies and music from the HDD to my Samsung UN55C8000XM, the drive has been recognized, but when i press video, music or pictures, it gives me a message that the HDD does not have any file to read. So i go on the information tab, and it shows 0kb avaible on the HDD. I've noticed from other forums that many people are having this kind of problem, and i wonder, does anyone know why is this happening? There`s anyway to solve this issue? My HDD is formated from factory as NTFS, the TV firmware is the most recent from Samsung site for my country and product. I`m frustated, i bought the HDD only for this aspect, the funny is the other HDD i have, a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5Tb (2.5", no external power supply) and it works like a charm, none of the problems above. Already called Samsung and they don't know why, so i thought of asking here and calling Seagate aswell.

What`s is the big diference between them? Why does one work and the other one doesn`t? Thank you all for reading, and sorry about my poor english, haven`t practiced in quiet a while.

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagete FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

Here are something to try:

Check your Samsung UN55C8000XM manual:

1) The file system supports FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS. Your drive should be OK.

"Media Play only supports USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) devices. MSC is a Mass Storage Class Bulk-Only Transport device. Examples of MSC are Thumb drives, Flash Card Readers and USB HDD (USB HUB are not supported). Devices should be connected directly to the TV’s USB port".

2) Connect your drive to the dedicated USB 1 (HDD) port as stated in the manual.

3) Also check: "If an external USB device connected to the TV’s USB port draws an excessive amount of current from the port, the message “USB Power overload” appears on the screen. This is not a problem with the TV, which provides the standard current from its USB ports, but a problem with the external device. Please contact the manufacturer of the device for support".

You can download the manual from here:

Enjoy! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagete FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

Thank you for the answer myforum.

1) It's Formated to NTFS.

2) Always connected to USB1 (HDD)

3) No message like that whatsoever, only thing shown is the message that there's no video/music on the HDD.

What i seem to understand, is that the TV recognize the HDD, but can't read anything inside. My guess is that it won't read because it is a 3Tb HDD, and somehow that is the problem.

Thank you =)

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagete FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

Ok, i think I just solved the issue.
I've partition the HDD with EASEUS Partition Magic, the main partition with no more then 1.6Tb and the rest unallocated space, and it works now!!! Just gotta see how much i can leave on that partition so still works.

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagete FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

I am having a similar problem.

I have recently purchased a Seagate 3tb expansion drive to replaqce my 1tb model.

Unfortunately my samsung tv doesnt seem to read anything on the 3tb model. It recognises when both are connected yet doesnt read the files on the 3tb model.

I have tried partitioning with the same program you have used to it doesnt solve the problem

Both HDD are formatted to NTFS and have seperate external power supplies

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

You will probably want to contact Samsung to see if they have a utility that is used, or to make sure what format the drive needs to be into. I know that many of the TV's do support various formats, but many times I see that the drives need to be in FAT32 format. Seagate does not support the drives connected to a TV, but you can definitely try that out. Maybe some of our other Forum users have some additional suggestions.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Re: TV recognize External HDD but won't read files - Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 3Tb

I have a Seagate Expansion 3TB. on an LG 42" LCD TV wouldn't read files so I repartitioned it to 2 1.4TB partitions.

It now works BUT! Only on the first partition, won't read the second partition.  If I play it through my Apacer media player it works fine, but that's another device to run and it wouls be great if it just used usb input....

Any ideas as to how I get it to read second partition? ? ?
