Video playback and/or power issue...

Hi, I just bought a Seagate GoFlex Ultra-Portable a few days ago.  It installed fine, and the drive is recognized & tests fine in Seagate Dashboard.  However, whenever it is plugged into the usb port, I have video playback issues, and not just when I'm playing from the external drive.  Even youtube videos in my browser have issues.  The videos play fine but will stutter (the video will freeze for a half-second occasionally.  Sometimes it happens more often like every few seconds, other times every half a minute to a minute.)  When I disconnect my Seagate drive, everything is fine.  Is it drawing too much power?  I've even uninstalled & reinstalled the device driver & the Seagate Dashboard software.  It's driving me crazy, is this a defect or is this a common issue with a fix?

I also have trouble disconnecting it from the taskbar, as it will say that a program is still using it, even though I'm not running any programs that would be accessing it, and even after I quit Seagate Dashboard completely.

Re: Video playback and/or power issue...

Hmm, that is strange.

I have a few ideas to try to figure this out.

Please completely uninstall Seagate Dashboard

Then reboot your computer.

Then try it again and see what happens.

If it does NOT still happen, probably Dashboard is the problem. Download the latest version and try it again.

Or, don't use Dashboard at all. You don't need it.

If it STILL happens, continue on:

When the stuttering is happening, open the Task Manager.

Go to the Processes tab. Click on the CPU heading to make the CPU list go in descending order.

Is there an item that is consistently taking up a lot of CPU?

Go to the Performance tab.

When the stuttering is happening and the drive is connected, etc, what is the Performance of CPU Usage looking like?

Thanks!

Re: Video playback and/or power issue...

Sorry, as of now, this seems like it might not be related specifically to the seagate drive, as further tests show the video playback issues happening while the drive is no longer plugged in.  May have been coincidental, some other problematic update or hardware issue concurrent with getting the new drive, I don't know, but I'll come back if I start suspecting the seagate drive again.  This is troubleshooting heck! :smileymad:
