I cannot get the drive to be recognized by my computer, a 1 year old Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.
I downloaded the MS .NET 4 (or whatever it was) that I wsa told I needed, and I downloaded the SeaTools for Windows. The SeaTools program does not find the drive. I cannot find it in MyComputer. But when I connect the USB cable, the drive itself starts up, so something is happening. I have no idea what to do or where to go for a solution.
This really is ridiculous. These things are supposed to be plug and play. This drive was a warranty replacement for a OneTouch4, that worked just fine until it burned out. Now a new laptop cannot recognize a new external drive.

You are right, that is ridiculous. I also have a Toshiba Win7 laptop and a USB 3.0 Goflex desk and it was plug and play but I deleted all the Seagate software off the drive straight away.
You shouldn't need the MS .Net framework just to connect an external drive, that is probably for the Seagate software. I recommend not installing the software. I never do and seem to have a have a lot less problems.
How does the drive show up in windows Disk Management? Maybe it is something as simple as a drive leter conflict.

The drive doesn't show up anywhere. Not in disk management or in My Computer. It starts up when connected to the computer, and the light is on, but the computer doesn't see it.

In device manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is everything showing as normal (no exclamation marks or crosses)?
Does USB Mass Storage Device appear when you plug in the Goflex Desk?
Try it on another computer?
