goflex adaptor thunderbolt

I got a goflex thunderbolt adaptor expecting to be able to use it with any sata hard drive.  Will it only work with goflex drives as I've tried 2 different 3.5 sata HD and they don't show up.  They do show up on a Voyager Q sata HD dock.
