HI,
Installing Seagate Replica broke my Raid array, disabled drives, misappropriated drive letters, re-lettered drives, and failed to provide a drive letter for it's own drive. I have tried assigning a Drive Letter manually in Disk Management, but it is always rejected. Now the Replica drive says it is 'active' -would that prevent a drive letter being assigned? And how would I change that?
And, although, I've had discussions on this board before, now Seagate has no record of me and I had to go through the entire registration process (surrendering unecessary personal information ) just to get here.
I filed a case with tech support this a.m. and have a case number (02186006), etc, but can find no way to check on it's status or add additional info to my question. It demanded "support account credentials" but i have no idea what that is.
So, anyway, how do I get a drive letter assigned, and how do i update my support email?
Thanks for hearing me out.....

OK, I used a partition Mgr prgrm to assign a Drive Letter to the Replica Drive. The effort failed because the Letter was assigned to my FreeAgent Pro drive instead!!!!
This is a repeat of the original installation nightmare. Now the computer won't recognize the FA Pro and the Replica still has no drive letter. And it took me 30 minutes to get the computer to boot properly again.
Clearly this is a problem caused by seagate. yet no-one answers these threads, support won't answer the phone cause it's the weekend, and there is no way to reach support online.
This does not engender confidence. I hope you can see why I would be disinclined to purchase a seagate product again.

Clearly this is a config problem, you say you had 2X drives using the same drive letter, go out and try that @ 100kph on the freeway and see what happens, 2 into 1 doesn't go in this case.
I'll help you out here, download HD Sentinal, if the drive shows good health and performance it's not the product causing the fault.

...you say you had 2X drives using the same drive letter...
I didn't say that, in fact I don't think that can be done.
The drive is healthy, and I don't think it is a config issue.
Rather, I think it is signature or ID issue. When the 2 seagate drives are 'online' only one displays a drive letter, the other reverts to none. If a letter designation is then assigned to the 'none' drive it is either rejected or appears on the other drive. When 1st installed the Replica drive usurped the drive letter from the FA Pro. when only one drive is plugged i can give it any drive letter I want; they just won't exist together.
But thanks for your help.

Yeah sorry for that you didn't, thats me scanning 20 or so problems at a time and overloading the mushy pea, I'll have another proper read later and see if I can think of anything for you.

No problem; I understand.
I have finally recovered the Seagate Replica from 'active' status using Minitool Partition Wizard. The drive letter issue is the only remaining one.
The FreeAgent Pro is drive H, and the Replica is drive *. Using the partition wizard (or disk Manager, doesn't seem to matter) I try to assign Drive Letter 'I' to the Replica. What happens is that the FA Pro gets changed to 'I' and Replica remains *; ie- won't accept a letter. BTW, both drives are indicated as "online" in Disk Manager, so the fix recommended elsewhere on this site doesn't apply in this case.
I can't figure out what is happening. It seems as if the drives cannot decide which one of them is the Replica. The Replica software is constantly running and this may be a cause of Letter assignment failure. Is there any way to temporarily suspend the software? Can the software be uninstalled without losing all the backup? If I were to uninstall the Replica (which is a lengthy process) would it successfully reinstall (even lengthier process-2days) with an appropriate drive letter? (my guess is no- it would steal the letter from the FA Pro again). Such is my dilemma.
I appreciate any insight you may have.
Thanks for responding to my problem....

OK, thanks.
New developments to consider: I was able to uninstall the Replica software, leaving all backup data on the disk. This option was offered after I selected uninstall in the Win7 'programs & features' window.
As soon as I did this the Seagate Replica appeared in the HDD section sporting a new drive letter (H), which it had appropriated from the FA Pro once again. However, now the FA Pro has acquired a drive letter (I) too. So far so good.
Then I re-installed the Replica software (note: I could only do this because now with a drive letter I was able to directly access the SG Replica disk and click the .exe file. Without the drive letter the disk cannot be accessed).
As soon as the software installed the SG Replica lost the drive letter and reverted to "Other." Back to square one, don't know what to make of this, except that the software is causing this problem.
Can you suggest what can be done? Is there an updated version of the software (currently v307698778)?
What now???
btw, I am still unable to access Support thru 'my cases' ; it won't accept my name or password.

All I can think to offer you right now is to ditch the software again and use this for both http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/discwiz

I notice that this software does not indicate Win7 as a supported OS. Since I'm using Window 7 64-bit, and because I've had problems before with such things, I wonder if you could assure me tht this will work with Win7-64?
thanks again.
