Thank You, Maple Tree. I was actually asking about the AChronis that Cantbecanit recommended, but I appreciate the info about Replica too. btw, of all the maples, the sugar maple is the most beautiful tree on the planet, don't you think?

Thank you for all your help. I have finally got the problem solved. Tech Support finally answered, suggesting a total reformat of the drive. I have done so, and installed the software they provided, and now the system seems to be working fine. The only downside- I now have to endure the 2 + days that it took to back up my system the 1st time.

LOL, I think a lot of the time a re-format sorts it out but I'm mloath to suggest it as someone always pops in and says don't do that it's not needed, unfortunatly it is though, as a HDD goes through life it's altered with every program ppl install, sometimes this locks things out and it's a minefield to find out what did what, I'm glad it's sorted and thx for saying thx as well, not many do and when they do it's greatly appreciated.
