Seagate goflex ultraportable for mac and pc comes with paragon 8.0 version installed. But this software will not run on new mac operating system i.e lion os 10.7. for that you will need paragon 9.0 which you will have to purchase from paragon software by paying 20 dollars. this is no where mentioned when buying seagate goflex drive.
This is a very clear case of fraud and cheating by such a big company. shame on seagate.
see the attached file below regarding new paragon version.

Or...you could always locate the newer driver from seagate's website and install it...**shock**
Before going and calling people a fraud, you should make sure you use all available resources first...why not ask support for a new download or something.
Now, if they had told you that they wouldn't allow you to have the newer version to work with the new mac os...then you would have something to complain about it.
But the download is out there for you to install the newer version...so there's nothing for you to complain about.
So shame isn't for seagate on this one...it's shame on you lol

I am sorry as i was too much angry at that time and wasted lot of time to make it work.
I called seagate customer care and they helped me in installing new paragon software. It is now working on both mac and pc.
Seagate customer care is excellent!

seagate customer care is excellent? Well, the seagate support website totally sucks. They have known for a very long time that the Paragon software pre-installed on their drives and downloadable from their website doesn't work on Macs anymore. Drives show read only. The proof that the problem is with the paragon software is quite easy to prove. Just go to the paragone website and download a trial version of their driver and voila the drive is now read/write. Have done that on 3 macs. But at $20 bucks a pop that's not a viable option for most people. In fact, it's fraud. Shame on the folks at Seagate who have not taken action to fix the software on the download page!!!

SHOCK! None of the old or new Paragon drivers on the Seagate website work to solve this problem. Not surprisingly, the trial drivers on the Paragon website work perfectly.
Now I know everything I need to know about Seagate. First and last purchase ever. I shouldn't have to call the excellent customer support line.

Hello Hbtony,
I also had similar problem.
My suggestion:
Download new version of paragaon software from the seagate website. After downloading, open system preferences. There will be a icon "NTFS for Mac" in the bottom row. Click that and then check on (not empty) the box for Turn the paragon NTFS for Mac OS X driver off. After that the drive will become read and write.
I hope this will solve your issue. Let me know if you need any help.

Newest version, still rubbish.
I would recommend not using the Paragon HFS+ driver. It's not fit for purpose and has stability issues. It corupted my drive with the first file I copied on Win7 x64. Then I had problems reading it on Mac OSX and Paragon informed me that i would need to buy a 3rd party $40 program to fix the drive, even to just format it.
I dicovered that the fsck_hfs process hogs the CPU. if you kill it, 'disk utlity' will start working properly again allowing format of the drive. Without spending $40 on drive warrior etc.
That said, Paragon NTFS may be a better piece of code and using NTFS between windows and Mac a much better
My recommendation is buy a seperate drive to swpa files between mac and windows due to this HFS+ driver easliy corrupting drive.
NOTE: As another person said, an external drive is not a backup, two or more copies are... I had two backups, so this mishap was not a disaster, just very infuriating that even the drive was so corupt I could not format it! ;-)
