Seagate share web interface has an option to share a folder with selected friends.
You need to have remote access turned on and they would access the share via the internet. They get an email with a link that (in theory) lets them access the shared folder.
Update: I just tried it from my Android Tablet on my home wifi and it works over the LAN as well
