Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: GoFlex Home Firmware Update With Mac OS Lion Support Now Available

[ Edited ]

Hello. I've been following this forum for about 4 weeks waiting for the update.  Glad it finally came.  I updated my firmware with no problem.  The problem I have is trying to wipe the old Time Machine files.  When I clicked wipe, it ran for about 3 minutes then said:

Scratch that....I was able to get it to wipe.  Now I have a new problem.  I unchecked the Enable Computers Backup feature and tried to get TimeMachine to use the GoFlex Home Backup disk.  When I check it and enter my username and password, it tries to connect, but I get the following:

Time Machine can't access the backup disk "GoFlex Home Backup."

The operation couldn't be completed.  (OSStatus error 2.)

Can you help me?

Thanks,

William

I still have the same problem after installing the firmware update.  Time Machine indicates my GoFlex does not support AFP.  I can access my shared folders on the GoFlex.  Are there any post firmware install steps?

I have installed the update and I also get an error saying that my GoFlex does not support AFP.

Did you all try the post-update pinhole reset instructions in post number 3 above?  Click the link that was posted and follow the instructions on resetting the GoFlex and see if that will work.  That is what finally worked for me.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: GoFlex Home Firmware Update With Mac OS Lion Support Now Available

I did.  I have done it a couple times now actually.

At this point I'm wiping the backup from the admin page, then doing the pin reset.  I restart the mac while it's resetting.

I then go in and set up the GoFlex again and be sure that I check Computers Backup and set my password.

At this point I’m going to Applications, and running the Seagate Computers Backup utility and following the instructions.  Basically selecting the ComputersBackup$ o GOFLEX_HOME_ATM and entering my password.  It seems to work but when the backup tries to start, I get the error that the backup disk does not support the required AFP features.

Not sure what I’m missing.

Quote from au1xr6 in this post –

http://forums.seagate.com/t5/GoFlex-Net-GoFlex-Home/Time-Machine-cannot-access-GoFlex-HOME-in-Mac-OS...

this is how i got the goflex home to work with OSX Lion time machine.

1. ignore everything in the manual.

2. start up the NAS drive as per normal and browse to it via finder it will appear as GoFlexHome - connect to it as one of the registered users.

3. you will see two listings under GoFLexHome: one is the User name the other GoFlexHome Backup

4. open time machine preferences and go to select disc

5. select GoFlexHome Backups on GoFlexhome

-----------------------

GOT IT!!!

This is close but I still had problems.  I believe the only difference in what you said was that the account you connect with CANNOT be an admin account.  When you create the account in Preferences, be sure that you DO NOT check the "Create as Administrator" box.

I could ever get the account I initially created to connect.  I had to make a new one.

Using the mounted disk as instructed worked for me. I didn't have to use a non-admin account. It worked with the one created with the Seagate setup software.

(The Seagate recommeded setup post-Lion includes wiping the previous backups. Um. I made those backups in case something happened with the Lion install that would force me to revert to Snow Leopard later. Something such as having my backup drive stop working with Time Machine. So, really? That's your solution? Thanks, Seagate. Very helpful.)

I really hope that last part was a joke because I cannot imagine even Seagate being that stupid!!!!!

So far, other than the cost of the GoFlex home and the plugs on the unit, very little about it has been close to Seagate's claims. This is the type of thing that leads me to boycotting a company. 12 Years without a Sony product and 9 years without buying anything from EA, guess Seagate now starts a new streak!!!
