Access to GoFlex Home from internet

I have previously successfully accessed my GoFlex Home 2Tb via the internet whilst travelling using www.seagateshare.com

Currently it's not working

I can enter my GoFlex device name, user name and password, and I seem to get past the login process.  I then either get:

  • error Gateway Timeout or
  • Blank Internet Explorer screen rather than the 3 default Seagate icons

If I try when at home I can successfully access via www.seagateshare.com but the access seems clever enough to route me via my local IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.2) into my device.

I recently had to change my router to a different type/model due to hardware issues.  I don't know if this is related as I hadn't tried remote access in the last few weeks.

I can't think of anything else that has changed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Access to GoFlex Home from internet

Sorted

The required ports were being blocked by the router, i.e. `port forwarding` needed to be enabled

i have a Huawei 520b router from my broadband supplier (Talk Talk in the UK)

In the router advanced settings I had to:

  • allow ftp and web access in the security settings
  • enable UPnP and also for users to make config changes through UPnP
  • turn off SPI in Firewall
  • Check that ports 80,21,22 and 443 have been enabled under NAT --> virtual server

You can check whether the correct ports are open on your router using the tool at:

Cheers

Re: Access to GoFlex Home from internet

Sorry to reply to an old post, but doesn't the above open one's system up to a slew of security threats??

I have recently purchased a GoFlex Home, and would love to increase the performance when connecting remotely. But the more I look into the steps required to do so and the associated security risks, I'd rather wait wait for the web UI to connect to my drive.

Can someone explain this further, please?
