BackUp Plus and GoHome Dock

[ Edited ]

I am wanting a network (ethernet connected) storage device.  I like the features and look of the new Backup Plus drives recently launched by Seagate; however, the only network storage devices for the home market I am able to find on the website are for the older GoFlex Home and GoFlex Net products.

Is there a network product for the BackupPlus drives, or are there adapters that can convert the BackupPlus drives to a network drive?

Re: BackUp Plus and GoHome Dock

Thanks for your question!

At this time, there is not a network product in the Backup Plus family, so yes, GoFlex Home and Net are still the most recent NAS product Seagate offers. (Note that those two are not similar in function and purpose.)

Now.... as far as a network-adapter, yes, that is in play although I'm not sure if it's exactly what you were thinking.

If you have a GF Net, then Backup Plus Portable drives will fit into the Net's slots and so yes, you can use it that way.

Ditto with the GF Home - Backup Plus Desktop drives will fit into its slot.

Also, each of those products have a USB port and you can connect any USB storage drive (like a Backup Plus drive) to it and thus increase the available capacity for what is available to the cloud.
Does that make sense?

Re: BackUp Plus and GoHome Dock

[ Edited ]

I got abrand new Backup Plus 3TB and GoFlex Home Desk 3TB.

When I switch the drive in the GoFlex dock with drive in backup plus it doesn't detect it.

The light in the front blinks in RED.

How can I make it recognize my Backup plus drive?

Update: I cannot even connect to my GoFlex drive now.

When I go to the dsahboard in my browser I get following error:

"Please insert a storage device now to manage and share your digital media"

Did I just brick it??

Update 2:

So both drive works when I connect to Backup plus dock and connect directly to computer via a USB cable. I see the drive so I assume drives are fine. May be I corrupted the dock?

If I connect a portable USB drive (different from the above two drives) to my GOFlex dock, I can see that in the dashboard.

So looks like even the dock is sort of working.

Both dock and drive seems to work seperately.

The do not want to work together.

The SATA port on the GoFlex dock damaged?

Its been only two days since I bought these. If no fix, I will return it.

Re: BackUp Plus and GoHome Dock

I am not 100% sure I understood you correctly, but it seems like we at least know that the GoFlex Home is not functioning properly.

Could you please try this so we know that it is correctly functioning?

Re: BackUp Plus and GoHome Dock

So I went to that link and the Flash Guide link from it.

None of the option really fits.

GoFlex home gets detected by the dashboard (I can directly go to the IP address and see everything).

I used this: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218551en

I did a firmware reset using:

http://support.goflexhome.hipserv.com/en/reflash/index.html

and was able to setup everything again (user accounts and stuff).

I can even see a USB pen drive I connected to the dock in the web based dashboard (under Preferences->Storage devices).

But I cannot see the GoFlex drive on the dashboard.
