Hi,

Just got the GoFlex home network storage system 2T.

I wanted to backup my whole main drive of PC using my Acronis software  along with incrmental backups offered within that, and then to be able to use the GoFlex streaming capabilities for photos, home videos, etc,  to other PC,and TV.

I already have streaming videos, photos,etc, set up through a server tto PC abd TV,s, but wanted a bigger storage system to be able to store all backups and stream and thought the GOFlex was the answer.

Can anyone advise as to whether I can do all of this?

I don't know about Acronis Backup, but as long as it supports backup to network locations then no problem. I use Cobian backup and it works fine with incremental backups.

The Goflex Home does media streaming. The minidlna service on the GFH can be a bit fragile, but after some initial issues, mine has been running fine for months.

The minidlna doesn't transcode ( unlike say windows media player) so the media player (TV or whatever) has to be able to handle the media format.

Really appreciate your reply. Sprry to have been so long iwith this thanks but had loads pf problems with passord issues for this site too.

Managed after some fiddling to use my Acronis backup software for the full bacup.  You say that the GoFlex  has to be able to handle the media format for streaming. Can you or anyone advise on the supported formats?

No, I was saying that the TV has to be capable of playing the file. (from the manual p.50)

GoFlex Home currently supports the following file type extensions:
• Audio: .mp3, .flac, .wma, .asf, .fla, .flc, .m4a, .aac, .mp4, .m4p, .wav, .ogg, .pcm, .3gp
• Video: .mpg, mpeg, .avi, .divx, .asf, wmv, .mp4, .m4v, .mts, .m2ts, .m2t, .mkv, .vob, .ts, .flv, .xvid, .TiVo, .mov, 3gp
• Images: .jpg, .jpeg
• Playlists: .m3u, .pls

Only the files supported by your media device will be detected and available for viewing or
listening. See your media device documentation for a list of supported file types.

In other words, just because the GFH will stream it doesn't mean that your player will recognize it. If you have been streaming media files from your PC, be aware that the PC might convert the files "on the fly" as it streams them but the Goflex doesn't.

Thanks for all the information, Loads of supported formats there.. After loading photo's, i did try watching them ( being simplest thing)  through my media player and TV, they were all listed ther on the TV screen , but ,wouldn't play. Still struggling a bit with this new GoFlex
