Currently "Remote Access" is disabled on 2TB GoFlex Home drive ... I have tried to enable it via GoFlex Home - Preferences - but when trying to do so, an error is always returned after about 10 seconds. (see attached screen shot of error dialog box)
The error has no code associated with it, and simply has the message "The server could not be reached. Please try agan in a few moments"
Does anybody have any suggestions on what could be the problem? I am trying to change the netbios name of the 2TB drive so I can add a second new GoFlex Home drive to the same network.
The posted quick fix link posted here does not change the netbios name - I am guessing due to the fact remote access is disabled.

Got the Remote Access issue fixed with a sledge hammer (factory reset).
After getting my 2TB GFH re-setup, I performed the home name to netbios name app posted here. Restarted GFH the first time and checked netbios name = no change.
Performed another factory reset, then netbios app again. Still no change.
Powered down, powered up GFH again ... BINGO ... got the netbios name changed!!! ... I have no explanation why it took so many girations to get it, but I finally got it.
Shutdown my 2TB GFH. Unwrapped and powered up my new 2TB GFH. Set it up, and brought the firmware up to latest release. Went thru the same ordeal with the new GFH as the other to get the netbios name changed ... finally.
Put both GFHs online to my network. Both lived together fine. Holy moses what a journey, but I finally got to where I wanted and I guess I am a relatively satisfied Seagate multiple GFH consumer. Could have done alot better without the hassle though.
The GFH products seem like they have tremendous potential to be GREAT products - if only Seagate would give the end user more flexibility to use the full potential and offer more support ... it seems as though most of the issues encountered with the GFH is due to the software/firmware handcuffs THEY build into the product.

Roby,
Just to say a big thank you for your posted solution
I have now got two GoFlex Home network Drives working on a wired LAN.
(Have had them both working via the wireless router, but prefer the speed and reliability of connection of the wired system)
I can now have one drive working as my photo store (currently at least 3/4 of my iMac's hard drive, which I can now release) and use the other drive as a syncronised back up.
Why Seagate don't make the products clever enough to recognise this automatically I just don't know - is it such a surprize that a customer may want more than just one drive?
Anyway, very glad that one of its brightest engineers, has published this work around.
Thank you Roby - you are a star.
To other folk about to do this - be patient, expect to reboot your computer pretty much after each step.
And waiting for each drive to reboot (why does it take so long anyway?) will make you want to get the slow drying gloss paint out and watch it dry....but you will get there.
Cheers.
Kevin & Willydog.

Crank it up!
I now have 6, GFH 3TB units on-line... crud, my little router is blazing hot!
I use the router to keep my coffee warm, LOL.
As for renaming the GFH drive, I think Axentra, service needs to be updated, and that is why it took so long.
The request of the software makes a change on your network, but not neccessarily on their network.
One time, after updating the NetBIOS name, I left it over night, and in the norning my network changed. So, doing the update, three or four times does not do anything, it just takes time.

I see both of mine just fine. I forgot to turn off remote share and when I did, I saw both the original GoFlex_Home and the new name george-backup. I did notice that you cannot change the name under remote share -- this is where it is getting the netbios name. So you have to enable remore share then type in a name that you want server to be. I am able to see both my 1TB and my new 3TB drive.
Thanks for the tool to do this with.... I was debating on either buying the USB 3TB and puting the 3TB on the GoFlex Home base in the 1TB on the standard USB base and hooking it into the GoFlex Home base but would perfer to have both as NAS.
