Connecting with direct ethernet

I am running Mac OSX 10.7.4.  I connect through my router with no problem.  I want to backup some big files to my Goflex Home and would like to connect to my Mac directly using ethernet.  I know I have done this in the past, but cannot get the connection to work now.  How do I accomplish this?

Because you don't have the router to do the DHCP stuff, you will need to make sure that the GFH and your network card have the same IP address schemes manually 192.168.0.x

 

If you still have trouble, try resetting the Goflex home while it is connected  through the little hole on the side (only press it for a few seconds)

For the sake of your own health and sanity, if your data is important to you, keep a second copy on another storage (a backup)
