I have a 2TB version of the GoFlex Home and so far so good. My only issue is that the drives won't automatically map when I start the computer. The only way I have found to get the drives to map is to launch the Dashboard software, which just seems to be a tool for seagate to get you to buy more (Premium) software, EVERY time I start the computer. Does someone know if there is there another way to get the drives to map when starting the computer?

As long as you've configured your dashboard with the correct credentials, it should launch automatically in your system tray and mapped your drives.
If this doesn't work for you, you can always set a static ip on your GoFlex Home in Preferences, then map the drives manually in Windows.
Cheers,
Roby!

robyb,
Thanks for your response. I am running Windows 7 and I see the Seagate Dashboard icon in the system tray when the machine starts, however the drives do not get mapped until I actually launch the Dashboard client. After that everything is fine. Is there a solution to this? What are my options?
Thanks!

I have a solution that seems to work for me. I setup the NAS to use a static ip address in the configuration software, though I am not sure that this was necessary. Then, I uninstalled the Dashboard software. After that, I tried mapping the drives and when doing so supplied the credentials to connect to the NAS, checked reconnect at logon and remember me and then restarted the PC. That didn't work. I mapped the drives again and looked in the Windows Credential Manager applet in the control panel. Even though I checked remember me, the Credential Manager applet indicated that the credentials would expire upon session logout and there didn't seem to be any way to change that.
I thought I was sunk, but the weird thing was that I have a laptop that never had the dashboard software installed and I had mapped the drives to the NAS before I set the NAS to use a static IP address. Anyway, the laptop would always reconnect the drives at startup. So there had to be something different about the laptop. Then I realized that the password I was using for my laptop was the same password I used for my account on the NAS. So I changed my password for my user account on the desktop PC to match and Presto! It worked.
It would be awesome if someone could explain to me why that works, but for now I guess I'll be satisfied that it does work.

Hello there;
Well that is the rule of networking. If you want to access a share it should authenticate you, most of the products out there use NTLM authentication mechanism, which sends to the network share the username and password that is used on the computer that' tryng to access the share, if it's a match you are in, if no, it will prompt you for username and password. Since GoFlex Home OS is based on linux, most probably they are using SAMBA as a file server. By default Samba uses the username and password of the user logged on the computer. That's why when you have the same username and password as the GoFlex Home setup, you are in without a hitch.
With this said, you can have a maximum of 5 user accounts on the GoFlex Home. So you are not obliged to use the same username and password all over the place.

Hi,
To map the drives manually does anyone know the path? My drive is configured with an ip address of 192.168.1.38 so I tried with \\192.168.1.38\GOFLEX_HOME but that does not map the drive..
Thanks

Hi sohang,
Go to Start -> Run -> \\192.168.1.38. You will now see the folders that can be mapped by name. You can then map \\192.168.1.38\<foldername>.
Cheers,
Roby!

Unless you get a WIN32_error like many of us are getting with no resolution so far.

I have been able to map the drive without using Dashboard.
you were so close ... it should be
\\192.168.x.y\goflex home public\ and use your credientials
It works for me on several laptops in my house.
Also Setting the drive to a static address does not work. Reset your gateway /router or power the drive off it will be back to DHCP.
I have set my router up for a DHCP Reservation for it, so the mapped drives work, and when I need to I can get to it via a browser using a known address - instead of doing a scan.
Hope this helps the bunch of you, there seem to be a number of people with the same issue.

I found a different solution that may get Seagate to start fixing these problems faster. I took my Goflex off the network and returned it to the store. I also provided a review on the stores online site outlining all the problems with the drive - static IP, mapping, no support for windows backup (even though it claims too) AND having to pay for features on an annual basis or they block functionality! If no one buys this junk they will fix it.
