Eliminating Memeo Backup software from running

[ Edited ]

New user of GoFlex Home NAS.

Happy with the unit, but I don't want to use the Memeo Backup software.

To keep it from doing backups, is it as simple as just Uninstalling the Memeo Instant Backup software from Win7?

I haven't found anything else that would seem to accomplish the same affect.

I don't want to screw this thing up.

TIA

Yes, just uninstall it (I suggest uninstalling the Seagate Dashboard at the same time) you don't need either.

If you want a good backup program try Cobian Backup

Thanks for the answer regarding the Memeo Instant Backup, but I've got a followup to your comment about Dashboard.

If I remove Seagate Dashboard, the GFH NAS doesn't show up in Windows Explorer as part of the network which means I can't select it as a source for "Map network drive".

How do I get around that if Dashboard is not installed?

By the way, you'll get a "solved" on this regardless of your answer to this followup, I just don't want the thread prematurely closed.

Re: Eliminating Memeo Backup software from running

Windows networking should work fine without the Dashboard. Seagate' troubleshooting guide for the dashboard even suggests running without it if you are having problems. I haven't used the dashboard for around 10 months.

If the GFH isn't showing up in network;

  1. make sure you have set the same Workgroup as other computers in Seagateshare preferences> Server Preferences> Network Sharing.
  2. Check in Seagateshare preferences> Server Preference> LAN connection that the gateway is set to your router., you can also set a static IP addresss here. Access seagateshare by typing //goflex_home in a browser address bar
  3. Turn on Network discovery in Windows

It is best to set a static IP for your GFH either in your router or (and) in Seagate share preferences

You should be able to connect even if it doesn't show under network by typing  \\goflex_home\  or \\yourgfhIPaddress\\  for example \\192.168.0.15\  in the explorer bar

In Win 7 , "remember my credentials" doesn't seem to work so you need to set in credential manager otherwise it will ask you for a password.

Great answers, both of them.  Lots of good info, including the screenshot which made it easy to follow and fix. :smileyhappy:
