Error Formating Storage Device

Hi, I have a Mac OS X 10.7.4 and a Goflex Home 3TB. I tried to erase all Goflex Home content using "Storage Device Format" option, but I received this message The following error(s) have occurded: Formating of your device from GoFlex Home has failed. Please try formatting your drive from your computer instead. And now I can not use my GoFlex Home. What can I do? Thank you

Try Factory Reset on the base unit. Press and hold for 15 seconds using a thin wire in the hole on the left side of the base viewed from the front.

This will delete all user accounts and you will need to go through setup again. Make sure to use the exact same device name you used when you first registered the GFH.

Edit: I really wouldn't recommend formatting the GFH drive at all if you want to use it with the GFH because of the way user folders are set up. I think the format feature in Preferences is meant for external attached drives connected to the GFH's USB port.

Re: Error Formating Storage Device

I don't think factory reset will help. His problem is with incomplete format caused by the faulty format functionallity in the dashboard.

It happened to me and I found that the hard disk partitioning is corrupted. The only way to fix it is to connectd to a PC and create new partition then format.

This guy explains how to connected without unboxing the hard drive:

Re: Error Formating Storage Device

Well it has been over 6 months and andernet hasn't been back to say it didn't work.

I agree that factory reset won't fix partitoning errors, but I think the problem was just that the format could not be done while the files were in use. I think the filesystem was probably OK and factory reset just remounts the drive with no users. The user folders + data are still in the /home folder, so it doesn't clean the drive the same way as formatting.
