Re: GoFlex Access Android and iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch apps now available

Hi do you know what would be better for a home setup a net or a go flex home I don't plan on using too much out of the house but the APP for the phone or iPad doesn't seem to work on the Go Flex Net it asks for a GoFlex Home name which you do not have witha Go Flex Netyou only have Email address and password so I am going to send thisGoflexNet back for a refund since no one seems to pick up phone or answer emails at Seagate I guess if they don't are enought to reason that should be a hint..... The Home is intriguing but with such bad customer service. I am going to return this crud.

I've been struggling with this app as well.  The only format that seems to work with Android is .flv, even this is sketchy too.  The link to the video file you are trying to watch through the goflex home app has to display an icon as well, if it doesn't, then the video won't play.

It's not Android, it's just the seagate app. I have files that play fine on my Android devices, will run from my Goflex off network or upnp stream, but the goflex app say "unsupported video type".

This is even for  .avi files that display in the file list with a thumbnail when I select videos as file type!

Maybe seagate should focus on hardware as they're obviously not good at software.

I also didn't like that this app doesn't give you the option of not saving your logon credentials on a mobile device so I uninstalled it

Re: GoFlex Access Android and iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch apps now available

My earlier post was misdirected. It looks like Seagate do focus on hardware as the software (hipserv, minidlna) are apparently written by others so I don't know how much we can blame Seagate.

I also notice that the latest version of the Goflex Access app doesn't store your password,:smileyvery-happy: which is pretty critical now that there is an option to upload files.

OK , now I'm happier but other people are gonna complain about having to log in every time. Maybe there should be an option in settings. We should probably take that up with Axentra, but if seagate are going to take credit then they also ought to take complaints.

As other people have said, it would be good if you could download files instead of the app just trying to play media files and giving up but docs and pdf's can be downloaded and pictures generally display OK.

Now that the security issue has been fixed it's a pretty useful app.

The app always had a "logout" option.  If you don't logout, it will still retain your password.

Try the "HipServ" version of this app.  It was recently updated (on android) to allow you to choose a 3rd party media player when streaming.

Cheers,

Roby!

Are there any plans to include the 'Preferences' section into the iphone App?

It would be handy to be able to tweak settings when away from home and not near a PC

I've tried using the iPhone Safari browser but that gives a cut down Mobile version showing the Shares and Folders only

Re: GoFlex Access Android and iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch apps now available

@robyb

Yes I tried the Hipserv app and I think 3rd party support is only for video files.  I can't find any option to let you choose a 3rd party player for music files. In the app overview it states

"HipServ does not convert or render your video files. In other words, it is not a video player. It simply uses the video players installed on your phone to play your files"

and video files do play in the 3rd party player or let you chose a player if you haven't set a default.

But I don't think it is the same story with music files. ogg files play in both of my installed media players and ogg format is the native format for system notifications on the phone, but the hipserv app says" unsupported music format. Please select MP3 music files to play". If I open the files in a file browser app they play fine.

As I said, I'm pretty happy with the Seagate Goflex Access app now. It's handy to access documents and photos and I'm not too worried about streaming music remotely (though others might be). The Goflex firmware version 2.7-388 seems stable enough to be a realistic alternative to 3rd party cloud storage.

Re: GoFlex Access Android and iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch apps now available

I have Android devices running 2.2 and 4.0 and the app works on both.

When you say app support, what do you mean? Does the app show up for you in Google Play?  Or you can install it but it crashes?

I had a problem with another device and a different app showing as not compatible. I downloaded the apk and installed it as 3rd party source and it worked fine.

You could  also try the Hipserv app from Google Play. It 's the Axentra generic version of the Goflex Access app
