I have got into a bit of a mess with this hard drive. I cannot access the data on the drive and Time Machine won't connect to it. I am fairly sure all the data is corrupted but don't know how to check this - if it is possible.
I tried the Troubleshooter but when it asked me to open the DiskUtility the drive wasn't listed even though it apears in Finder.
I would like to completely wipe the hard drive (I have a second backup so don't mind losing all the data on this drive) and start as if it was a new drive but I cannot find any instructions about how to do this.

if you type //goflex_home/ into a web browser it should load the seagate share web service. (if not, try //GFH_IPpaddress/)
Log in with an administrator user account.
Go to Preferences , scroll down to Administration right at the bottom, under Storage devices.
Click on the Seagate drive (should only be one listed unless you have additional drives connected to the GFH USB port).
Click the Format button

Thanks for your reply. I had already tried that but it refuses to format.

Have been experimenting. Did a reset and then started the Goflex Home Setup app. This went right through the process and on to Step 3. This seemed to work OK and I got the Time Machine preferences window but then got a message that "Time Machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk is not available."
Any suggesitons as to what I do now?
