Dear Friends,
It has been 3 hours and i am trying to connect the SEAGATE GOFLEX HOME with the seagate DASHBOARD, but in-vain.
I have unblocked all sorts of firewalls from my PC (which is very risky), but the dashboard is only trying to establish the connection or in some tries it gives the message: Unable to connect to NAS, please check if the device is connected properly (which is connected propery with both green and white lights on) or trouble shoot.
I have spent a huge amount on this device and ordered it through AMAZON. will highly appreciate if someone can assist me with it.
Thanks,
H

If you are trying to connect it to a PC running Windows 64 bit OS, it doesn't seem to like that. I have both a 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 OS running on my laptop and desktop. I found the 32 bit detected the GoFlex Home no problem without having to use any seagate software. The 64 bit PC still does not see it. Both PCs run identical security programs with Comodo.
It appears that Windows OS 64 bit is not compatible with many NAS drives. Either that or there is super-secret way of getting a 64 bit OS to recognize one of these drives that no one else has "let me in on". I inquired directly with Seagate and they basically inquired more about the router and firewall than the OS itself.

hmmm... no problem at all here, we have 2x laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and connecting to my GF Home, one being the actual laptop I'm writing this post on. The Seagate Dashboard software works just fine. Alternatively, manually mapping network drives from Windows Explorer is no problem, and using command line "net use" commands are also fine - I use these commands in a batch script to connect to the GF Home as each user in my household in turn and copy everything off to an external disk as a backup.
Here's the command line equivalent to mapping the usual X, Y and Z drives that the Dashboard software sets up for you:
net use y: "\\goflex_home\Goflex Home Backup" %password1% /user:%user1% /persistent:yes
net use z: "\\goflex_home\Goflex Home Personal" %password1% /user:%user1% /persistent:yes
net use x: "\\goflex_home\Goflex Home Public" %password1% /user:%user1% /persistent:yes
The above commands assume your GF Home is named "goflex_home" on the network. Replace "%user1%" with the user account name for accessing the GF Home, and replace "%password1%" with the password for that account.
Not much help solving the originally posted problem, but it's incorrect to say that the GF Home won't work with Win 7 64 bit OS. (ps - I also have 3x pc running Windows XP and talking to the GF Home)

Hi H,
Was wondering if you were able to finally connect the GoFlex Home to your computer? I am also trying to connect it but I wasn't successful . I called the support and they told me that I would be able to do that by using the ethernet cable ( which of course did not happen!)
Please if you were sucessfull would you mind sharing the solution?
Thank you very much
Nina

The Goflex Home is a Network Storage. It only connects with an ethernet cable. Not sure why you wrote "which of course did not happen!"
You can remove the hard drive from the Goflex Home and use a USB-SATA adapter* to connect the hard drive with USB.
Then it will just be a USB external drive and you could have saved some money by just buying a Goflex Desk in the first place.
