GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

I have a 1TB Goflex Home. Im running Win 7 64bit. It worked fine until I bought a new router. Ever since ive had the new router i cannot map the network drives. I can see the device in my network and i can access the web based application, but thats it. If i try to map manually i get "cannot be found". I can no loner add or remove files from the network drive and im becoming frustrated. Ive reinstalled the software multiple times and that dosent fix it. Segate dashboard sees the drive, but still wont let me map it.  Im hoping someone knows I can fix this problem.

My new router has its own USB ports for file sharing I wish I could just unplug the ethernet on this thing and plug it in USB. Its useless in this condtion.

Please help!

Re: GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

What is the mapping command you are using. I'm sure you jsut have to tweak the mapping command.

Its not the drive, its the router and the path to it.

Re: GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

Ive tried it just like the way the seagate guide says. Like this http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/217811en.

Ive also tried just right clicking my network and hitting map network drive. Using both \\goflex_home and the IP adress of the device. Nothing seems to work. It always says windows cannot access that address.

If i type the //goflex_home or the IP adress into a browser window though the web app open just fine.

And for reference. I now have an ASUS RT-N56U router.

I just cant figure this one out.

Re: GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

When you say you can see the drive in your network, are you actually seeing the network drive (with the IP address) or just the upnp server? If you can see the drive then I can't understand why you can't map it.

Have a look at http://forums.seagate.com/t5/GoFlex-Net-GoFlex-Home/Windows-7-cannot-find-my-goflex-home-drive/td-p/... and see if that works.

Is the firewall (either on the router your PC) blocking access? You could try changing the Workgroup name to match your PC. It shouldn't matter, but it shouldn't hurt.

btw Nice router,. If you connect an external dive through usb does it work as a NAS?

Re: GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

OK i seemed to to have fixed it. It did seem to indeed, be my PC firewall. Which is odd because I havent touched it since before I replaced the router. I never had to add the goflex IP adress as an exception before. But I did that this time and it worked. Now it pops right up. I mapped it right away.

Now I feel silly. I cant belive I didnt think to shut off my PC firewall and try it. Thank you for reminding me.

To answer your question anyway. No, it was only showing as a UPNP before I fixed it.

The router is great. I can access any USB devices that are plugged directly into the router in multiple ways. As a NAS, UPNP or FTP. I wish I could plug in the goflex via USB instead of ethernet now.

Again. Thank you.

Re: GoFlex Home - Cant map the network drives.

You mention you wish you could plug the GoFlex HOme unit via USB on the back of the router? Why?

All your ways of communiction are available via the ethernet. you just have to learn to harness it.
