I just purchaed a 3 TB GoFlex Home and copied my movies from my iTunes library to the GoFlex Home.  I can play the movies easily on my iPod Touch.  On my laptop, through Seagate Share, I can see the contents of the drive.  The first time I clicked on a movie (all .m4v format), I was prompted to download and install Quicktime (makes sense).  I did install Quicktime and now when I double click on any movie, the movie player starts, but all I get is a black screen with the spinning cursor in the middle.  The movies will not play.  I don't get any error messages at all.  How do I get the movies to play?  I shouldn't have to convert them to a different format.  It seems that Quicktime should load and play the movie, but I get the flash player and it won't play them.

Is it a Digital Rights Management issue?

I see why you can't just copy and play protected content anywhere, but you think there'd be an error message.

What if you install itunes on your laptop?

Loads of problems here too. Can't view even a simple format of jpeg photos, although can see the folders there on the  screen, they wont open and I think the Seagate support  people are terrible.

It's probably a different problem in your case ij. Not DRM.

What is the problem? When you say you can see the folders there on the screen, what application are you in?

I'm sure the Seagate support people are nice once you get to know them. I believe some of them even have families and friends.

Sorry its actually its the support service at Memeo I am unimpressed with, but, it is Seagate' s built in software.

I am not big on the technical side, but, I have been able to stream movies through to the TV through my media player and a free server app  very successfully through a smaller external drive. I use a wired network within my home to the various devices i.e.. other PC, a second media player.  I am quite happy with that setup. 

 I bought the GoFlex tfor the large storage capacvity and to stream my photo collection and home videos, and perhaps my large collecxtion of music.Do I need to do something else other than place the photo's in the public folder. This is where they are seen but open only on the PC.

Support people are often useless and I have very low expectations when I contact support anywhere. But imagine doing that job. I think if they actually cared about your problems they'd burn out very quickly.

How many times a day do they have to deal with clueless people who think their problems are someone else's fault?

Anyway, you still didn't answer my question. 

When you say you can see the folders there on the screen, what application are you in? I'm not even sure what screen you are talking about, maybe your TV screen?

Do you need to do something else other than place the photo's in the public folder?

I think the public folder is shared by default, but it wouldn't hurt to check. Take a look at the attached screenshot and check if your photo folder is shared, or if you have just put them in the root level of the public folder, make sure that is shared with media devices

Things are better, I am now able to view photo's and video files, it is on the TV screen. Thanks for attached screen shots. All was set up to be shared ok.

I accessed the photo's through a  different means available to me on my media player, not my usual way when streaming videos in the past. When that worked  I then tried video files and had to revert back to my usual method. At least now mentioning videos I am not jumping in on someoneelses post in the same way I think. Ok so seems like something to do with my media player now.

At the risk of sounding clueless too, I am not sure what your question about application would mean in this case. I really appreciate your replies.
