GoFlex_Home versus GoFlex_Home_ATM

HELLO GUYS;

JUST INSTALLED MY 2TB VERSION AND SO FAR SO GOOD. FIRST QUESTION IS WHEN I BROWSE THE NETWORK I SEE THE TWO MENTIONED NETWORK SERVERS, I KNOW THE FIRST ONE BUT WHAT IS THE ONE THAT ENDS WITH THE ATM?

Re: GoFlex_Home versus GoFlex_Home_ATM

Hi Armopop,

The "ATM" stands for Apple Time Machine.  When you configure Apple Time Machine backups from the Dashboard it will utilize this netbios name, yet ensures that you can still access your GFH's Samba shares without being interrupted.

You can just ignore the *_ATM share.

Cheers,

Roby!

Argh!  *Every* new user must have this same question.  Why isn't it included in your documentation?!  If there are no Macs on the network, is it safe to delete these folders?

Re: GoFlex_Home versus GoFlex_Home_ATM

Hi Roby,

I have found the instructions to the Goflex home quite ambiguous.

I have two Macs connected to the Goflex home and one PC, do you know ifthe drive needs to be formatted seperately for doing back ups of my macs and of my PC and can I use Time machine and memeo backup to complete the respective backups for my macs and my pc, thanks Keith

Hi Keith,

No formatting of drives is necessary, the GoFlex does it all for you.  Are there specific parts of the instructions for setting up Time Machine/Windows Vista that aren't working for you, can you refer to the specific lines in the documentation, we will gladly clear things up.

Thanks,

Roby!

Re: GoFlex_Home versus GoFlex_Home_ATM

Roby,

Thank you for your reply.
I have the following queries.

I have 2 Macs (OSX 10.6.4) and and 1 PC running XP Pro.

1. The user guide says - Mac users—You must use Seagate Share to copy files to GoFlex Home (see page 38), however I have discovered that files can be uploaded to Goflex Home or public using copy n paste, drag & Drop from finder.

2. I don't think that my Goflex unit shuts down apart from at night as the ethernet light constantly flashes. How can I check if the drive powers down?

3. I have created backups using  Time machine, however I cannot see the backup  folder / file either using m Mac or my PC (unless Time Machine is doing a backup). I know the backup folder  is there as the Dashboard confirms the space used up on the drive.

4. Why does the Goflex drive slow down/stop if I open the drive in finder and access the drive via seagate share (web) the same time?

Thanks for your help

Keith
