GoflexHome NAS not recognized in Backup Plus Seagate Dashboard

I've tried everything I could think of but no luck. My computer recognizes both drives correctly. On either MAC OS Lion or on my Windows drive. I know it's just a little thing but I want everything to work together. I have uninstalled then re-installed. Connected them both together or separately. I have installed the Backup Plus software onto the GoflexHome that didn't help. What else can I do?

Help

Re: GoflexHome NAS not recognized in Backup Plus Seagate Dashboard

I'm not really clear on what you would like to happen and I'm not familiar with the backup plus dashboard, but;

The backup plus is just an external drive. It has to be connected to a computer to do anything. The software runs on your Mac-mini.

The Goflex Home is like a second computer. It has it's own 1.2GHz processor and a Linux operating system. Even when your Mac-mini is turned off the Goflex Home can be running software such as a media server or a print server. It has a hard drive and can also have an external hard drive.

Think about it this way, if you had another mac-mini and you connected it through ethernet to your first one, would you expect it to show up in the Backup Plus Dashboard?

ps

I'm pretty sure that you didn't install the Backup Plus Software on the Goflex Home, perhaps you mean you copied the files over to the Goflex Home's hard drive?

Re: GoflexHome NAS not recognized in Backup Plus Seagate Dashboard

I am sure your intentions in you "mind" were thoughtfur. But your message came off as a little bit condescending. I am sure my initial message was clear. I DO know that the Goflex Home is like it's own computer. I do have access to both drives. I was just curious as to why Seagate Dashboard would not recognize BOTH Seagate drives. Anyway, I am not going to use any version of Seagate Dashboard because it is pathetically bad software. Unstable.

Re: GoflexHome NAS not recognized in Backup Plus Seagate Dashboard

Don't be too hasty ruling out condescending, I'm not even sure that in me own mind my intentions were thoughtfur.

I do agree that your question was clear, but I thought maybe there was more to it and perhaps I was missing your point.

It's a bit like asking why the Goflex Home doesn't show up under Devices in Mac Finder, like the Backup Plus does, but if you know that the Goflex Home is like its' own computer, then that question would be silly.

Anyway, I am glad that you decided to ditch the Seagate Dashboard software. I found that it causes more problems than it solves and now I wipe all Seagate software off any drives before using them.

cheers
