How to gain root access?

My Goflex Home destroyed my files. After that, it wouldn't let me delete or rename the files saying that "You require permission from Unix User/apache to make changes to this file.

So, I decided to get root access by doing

ssh USERNAME_hipserv2_seagateplug_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX@YOUR_IP_ADDRESS

but when I did that, it said "Server unexpectedly closed network connection"

Is it because of the recent firmware upgrade? The upgrade didn't really change anything; no speed diffference or anything

Re: How to gain root access?

Have you hard reset your device?  If so, then there will be no account to log into.

If you haven't and you still have access to your device, did you enter your product key using all uppercase?

Cheers,

Roby!

But won't that delete all the files on the drive?

I did enter my product key using all uppercase. I'm also using PuTTY

[ Edited ]

Lowercase has the same results.

I just tried it with all uppercase and I only got in once. This was after I had changed my Drive name with this. http://support.axentra.hipserv.com/updates/subdomain/

Before I could do anything though it froze and I couldn't get back in again.

Here is what it said:

Using username "admin_hipserv2_seagateplug_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX".
GoFlex Home version 10.0.x
admin_hipserv2_seagateplug_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX@drive's password:

Re: How to gain root access?

Ok, I think I got root access. I was not able to type the password but I pasted it in and got in.

It said:

Using username "user_hipserv2_seagateplug_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX".

GoFlex Home version 10.0.x

user_hipserv2_seagateplug_XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX@drive's password:

-bash-3.2$ sudo -E -s

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System

Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.

    #2) Think before you type.

#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Password:

audit_log_user_command(): Connection refused

Yet after all this I'm still not able to delete that annoying file that the Goflex drive corrupted.

(Yes I did reboot the drive after I did all this.)
