I picked up a 1tb GoFlex Home NAS last month. So far it is serving me really good. I noticed these forums are active and I have a question, which I hope was not answered yet.

Can I play .ogg or .flac type audio files?

Can I play .mp4 .m4a or dvix video files?

It seems like I cant stream those files when I try to access them. Although mp3 files work just fine.

I would like to bump this thread. Has anybody have any idea on this matter. Does hipserv not support vorbis formats?

The only .ogg files had on hand were some ringtones, so I copied them to my GFH and they stream through dlna no problem.

I don't know much about the vorbis format and how consistent it is, so all I can say is that it works in principle with GFH.

I have a few mp4 video files, but as you probably know mp4 comes in many flavours.

Hipserv seeems to recognise h.264 mp4 but it objects to some other formats. I found xvid avi to be the format that works best with all my devices and ended up converting most of my videos to that format.

I downloaded a flac file to try out and it streams OK over dlna, which is surprising as it doesn't display as a music file  in seagate share

Its not the GoFlex that decides what is streamed. Its the meader rederer, or meadia player.

MY Samsung TVs don't pally all things, but my Western Digital Live TV unit does...

On my latop top i run SERVIIO server software. and you can set it up to re-reder files, on the fly, to device that cannot play specific media. So, if you have problems with a file, try copying it to your PC, install the SERVIIO media server software, and it will re-render the video, then stream it to your destination.

I don't think that is correct If we are talking about upnp streaming. The Goflex decides what it will stream, but then the media player determines if it will play.

I have rmvb video files in my video folder that the Goflex minidlna ignores and won't stream even though they will play OK on my media players.

Plus a couple of avi files that I had to remove altogether as they were crashing the minidlna application, even though they play OK on other devices. 

If we are talking about transferring files over a network then pretty obviously the file type doesn't matter and whether they play will depend on the media player. But I don't think that is what refugee was asking.

And just to confirm, I fired up the fuppes (Free UPnP Entertainment Service)  media server on my old laptop and yes, rmvb files are streamed over dlna service by fuppes and my media players can all play them, including my Seagate Goflex TV.

But the Goflex Home minidlna doesn't recognize rmvb as a video format.
