I am running Windows 7 Home and have a GFH 2TB. Recently, I noticed constant disk activity on my computer hard drive and narrowed it down to the Seagate Dashboard Services. When I stopped the service, disk activity stopped.
- Is this a known issue?
- I seem to connect to the GFH fine without this service running. Why do I need it?

Question did you configure the Memeo backup software to do backups of your hard drive ? It could be that the memeo is doing a constant backup of your files. I personally don't use the memeo software its to how do I say it "poor software " I rather use another backup software like Cobian Backup its free and has a better configuration then memeo, so I only have install the Seagate dashboard and uninstalled the memeo software they don't have to be install together.

Thanks, I will check. I do not believe that I did, as I use Acronis for backups and I told it not to install the backup software. Could be some setting that Memeo set, anyway.

what is the data transfer rate you acheived with this new software. My drive have very slow read write speed. dont know what is the issue? To make this worst, nobody from seagate seems to bother to answer the queries of their customer.

The bad thing is that we are limited to the speed of the device which I have only gotten from 6,4Mbs/s up to 10,0Mbs/s at writing, I moved 130 Gb in 4 hrs. For reading its way higher then that I have streamed 1080p movies from the GFH to my PS3 with no lag only thing I had to do to the configuration because I was having problems connecting the GFH to the PS3 is go into the Seagate Dashboard, then Preferences, UPnP options turn it off in the first option and save changes, that was it.
Hope it helps, Greetings

The backup setting is configured on the device itself. I was using it for Time Capsule on my Mac. Turning off the setting had no affect on my PC.
Also, if I don't have the service loaded, then the drive will not connect to my PC reliably. Though once connected I can then stop it with no ill effects.
I wish someone from Seagate would respond to this.

I've just bought and installed a 2TB GoFlex Home network drive and experienced the same problem. I waited for the backup to complete but still the constant and strangely rhythmic pulse of the computer's internal drive light indicator continued. I uninstalled Dashboard, rebooted and hey presto, it stopped. The only problem is I would like to use the program to manage the Seagate drive. I did experience the same problem with a 1TB GoFlex USB drivewhich I bought some time ago and I had to uninstall the dashboard software then. Is it something to do with Microsoft's search/indexing or is it an issue with the Seagate software i wonder?

Neither. It is the Memeo backup software scanning for changes to your computer. That is what it does. It's why it is called Instant backup.

Why? Seriously, why?
Your operating system already has everything you need to manage the drive. The dashboard is just a launcher application for Memeo. If you don't like the constant use of your PC's resources by the Memeo software running then just uninstall all the bundled software and get yourself a decent backup program or even just use Windows backup (if you have Windowspro or Ultimate).
