Unable to view files after username reset

Hi,

I have a GoFlexHome 2Tb storage system which was "backing up" my laptop using Memeo Instant backup. Now the laptop died and I'm trying to restore the data from GoFlex on another computer.

As I forgot the username/password on the GoFlex, I reset the username/password. I'm able to access the flex home but cannot view my files. The dashboard is saying my drive folders are empty

The usage bar shows that the drive does have about 75G of data.. How can I retrieve my data?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Re: Unable to view files after username reset

How did you "reset the password"?

Maybe you mean that you created a new username and password? This would explain why the new username shows empty folders and the old username's folders (with the 75GB of data) aren't visible.

If you can't remember the old username then it is going to be difficult to access the data, since that's the point of security; to stop someone else wiping your data by mistake or without permission or accessing your private data.

You might be able to connect the drive using a SATA to USB cable or a Goflex Desk Base to read and copy the files but I don't think it will be easy to restore the backup in Memeo.

If you can at least remember the old username the you may be able to reset the password by doing a factory reset on the GFH to wipe the old accounts and then create a new user account with the exact same name as before. I suggest removing the drive from the base first so there is no chance of overwriting the old user folder, although it should be safe.

For the sake of your own health and sanity, if your data is important to you, keep a second copy on another storage (a backup)
