Win7 x64, Not recognizing GoFlex Home as DRIVE, PLEASE HELP!

Bought GoFlex Home 3TB yesterday, plugged into Cisco WRT310N V2, w/ Desktop PC (Win 7 64bit) does not recognize the drive.  Get NETWORK ERROR "Windows cannot access \\goflex_home" Error Code: 0x80070035.  Can not map netork drive.  Under Win Explorer the drive does appear as "GoFlex Home:UPNP-AV" in two places, 1) under Media Devices & 2) Under Storage.  When I click on either of them it opens Windows Media Player!  PLEASE HELP!

Did you register the device with Seagate and create user accounts?

If there are no user accounts then there is no way to log in to the drive on the network as no credentials exist so you will get an error.

refer to link for registration procedure.

 http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218551en

Unfortunately there is no way to use the GFH without registering a unique device name with Seagate over the internet, even if you only want a NAS and will never use remote access.

The dlna media stream is public so no credentials are required. Thats why you can see it under UPnP

I did that, but cant access it thru the \\goflex_home command. When I try I get error code 0x80070035, "The Network Path Was Not Found".  I had already created user accounts, there are three total on the drive.  I accessed it thru the IP address using IE. And it still does not appear under COMPUTER, but rather under NETWORK and only as media device, UPNP-AV.  I can not assign a drive letter to it...

in File explorer enter \\IPaddress\ for example \\192.168.0.50\

Check your firewall.

The GFH and drive is obviously working OK since the streaming media service and the web service are both running on your network, so it must be something in your network settings preventing a connection.

Re: Win7 x64, Not recognizing GoFlex Home as DRIVE, PLEASE HELP!

i can type in the IP address in EITHER Internet Explorer OR Windows EXplorer and it will take me to the web access.  I can enter my user name and password, i can change settings, i can add users, i can create folders.  So yes it must be an IP config issue or some other network issue.  I have checked McAfee and the firewall is not blocking it.  I had even turned OFF McAfee and still the same results...  Can you give me guidance on what IP address i should be looking for or what other NETWORK settings i could change.

In windows File explorer you need to enter the IP address as I have shown it with the \\ in front

Re: Win7 x64, Not recognizing GoFlex Home as DRIVE, PLEASE HELP!

OK, in the Seagate Share web interface Preferences page check that your setings are similar to the attached screenshot.

I'm assuming your router still has the default IP 192.168.1.1

Workgroup name should be the same as your Win7 machine (start, right click computer>properties and it is listed under computer name if you aren't sure).

In your router;

under Administration Management screen check that UPnP is enabled

these are the defaults

In Win 7 Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Sharing Centre> Advanced Sharing Settings

(or just type "advanced Sharing Settings" in start > search)

Turn on Network Discovery

Re: Win7 x64, Not recognizing GoFlex Home as DRIVE, PLEASE HELP!

I fought over this same issue as well, it turns out this is a Windows issue and the solution I used was pretty simple.  I believe the issue is DNS related within the Win7 client.  I simply added a line for the GoFlex drive with the appropriate DNS name and IP address to my Win7 Hosts file.  As soon as I hit save, I was able to access the drive.  Hope this helps...
