Hi there

Did you get an answer or an workaround, as I have the same problem with my movies and  mp3. The only way I figured out is to put all the folders to Public. But then you need to browse to the destination.

What I need is to mount a special subfolder in order to show only DVD files to my HDD receiver which only plays DVDs.

Amen brother, lets share the folders, subfolders and the contents of all in one.

Do'nt forget you can plave the file in the shared section... rather that private.

this MUST be possible. It is possible at Windoof and with every other NAS. Sharing subfolders is as common as using a folk.

So plaese Seagate at least fix the issue with mapping subfolders as you need it at least for using  an NMT as most of the users will do!

In what way do other products allow you to recursively share your folders over the internet?  Can you disclose said product, we'll gladly purchase one and compare with our product.

If you're trying to share to your DLNA devices then you CAN recursively share your folders.  Choose the folder containing all the files, click on the Options icon -> Share with DMA.

Not the most constructive responce Robyb - If the 'seagate' responce is really saying "we follow others whom inovate" then I shall note it in future purchase decisions.

You may consider the many 'livedrive' online backup/storage services where their software maintains a syncronised backup of files on your local drive to an off-site storage facility - file name and tree depth being maintained perfectly well (with automated workarounds for file-system limitations).

I think all we are asking for is a degree of acceptance that the seagate offering is not even close to being practical. If we have asked for something that is not technically possible we would be happy for an explanation as to what the limiting factors are. I don't think we deserve the responce "shown me someone who does it" when clearly their are companies that not only recognise there is a demand for this feature but have then gone on to prove that  it can be done - well.

Please note that I don't work for Seagate.

As I mentioned, you CAN share you folders recuresively to your DLNA enabled devices, but albums being populated from folders recursively for online sharing (which is much different than online backups to a cloud) are not currently available in the GoFlex Home.  Note that this is not a technical limitation, but part of the current design(please don't ask me why, I'm not part of the design team )

ahh - now i feel bad for being grumpy with you - I thought you were a seagate guy. Then in this case - i thnak you for all your imput.

I'm off to find out what a DLNA is and how i can make it my new best friend

You can still be grumpy with me, I work for Axentra, we make the HipServ platform which is used on Seagate's GoFlex Home

DLNA is the streaming protocol used on devices such as the Xbox, PS3, Windows Media Player, and is built-in to many new tv's and other media devices.  Of course, this doesn't help for streaming outside the home... this is when albums come in handy for sharing over the web.

Are you referring to the Shares section of the Seagate Dashboard? I don't see "Share with DMA". The users manual for my GoFlex Home says this, and it does not work:

To make your digital media files available to the media devices on your home network:
1. Open Seagate Share and log in (see page 31).
2. Click Seagate Share.
The Seagate Share page opens.
3. In the Content panel, move your mouse over the folder that contains the files you want, click
the arrow that appears, then click Share with Media Devices.

The only folder that shows up in the Share is the top level folder, not subfolders or files.
