I think I had the same problem one time and panicked thinking the drive had failed and all my files were lost. I think it is just the dashboard application losing communication.Try powering off the GFH and reboot.
Alternatively forget the dashboard, uninstall it and access the GFH interface directly from your browser (type the GFH's IP address into the browser address). I haven't had the problem since I uninstalled the dashboard.

I just picked up on your user name, suggesting you might be a mac user - in which case you probably aren't using the seagate dashboard - congratulations!
If that's the case, forget what I wrote about the dashboard and just try re-booting your GFH.

I have 1tb goflex home, I can ping it, I can log on to it via goflex_home but it says "no storage device present". I can feel that the drive is running. It may have been improperly shut down due to power/ups failure. How can I get it back? I'm considering taking the drive apart and putting it into a usb case to recover the files. HELP

seagate replaced the drive under warranty. so far the replacement is working better than the old one. faster response finding files and writes faster.

Just pull the drive out while it is running, then plug it back in once it spins down.....had to do it to mine several times and wont corrupt any files unless you are writing to it at the time. Also clear your Java cache, and uncheck the box in Java that says allow Java to store temp files on my HDD. That worked for me.
