Auto Power On When DC Connected?

Hi,

I will be using my GFS in my car. It will be installed semi-permanently in the center console. We can reach the power button there, but we won't be able to see the status lights.

Ideally, I would like the GFS to stay "on" until the battery dies, and automatically boot up when the DC power input is restored. Since the DC power is coming from the car, the power shuts off/on with the ignition.

So, is it possible to do these 2 things either via a software or hardware mod? I have an old Buffalo Linkstation NAS that I hacked into a full linux box. I was able to solder a wire to the circuit board to short the switch so it automatically boots when power is applied. Could I do something similar with the GFS?

Thanks.

Re: Auto Power On When DC Connected?

Hi,

Seeing as you are looking to open the case anyway...  Have you considered removing the GFS battery (just because) and connecting the GFS to an 'always on' power source on your car, i.e. for the clock?  The GFS doesn't draw much power under firmware 1.3 when the drive isn't spinning and the wireless isn't being actively used so you wouldn't have to worry about your car battery draining.
