The next step in external and wireless storage evolution is here - the GoFlex Satellite.

I really think this is a cool idea. I even got to play with one of these units last week, and it's remarkable.
Here's the GoFlex Satellite product page.
Here are the GoFlex Satellite FAQs.

The support for playing video files is reliant on the player, the device. Ie, your iPad.
The Satellite doesn't care what you save on it. It's the player that cares.

Yes, I think you'd be in good shape if you had a WMV player in your iPad.

great idea. The price point seems a little bit high, though.

Alan,
What does the compact car charger look like? can it be plugged into the GoFlex Sat power port? or is it the USB port? i.e. if it is plugged into the power port then it seems that the GoFlex Sat can be used while charging.

bodhi,
Check page 7 of this pdf - http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/whitepaper/ug_gofl
The car charger is in two pieces. One for the car cigarette lighter port, and its other end is a USB port. Then the other piece is the USB-to-power-plug, so it connects to the GF Satellite's power port.
It does that so the GF Sat can keep emitting its signal and thus keep streaming stuff to your tablet/phone/notebook and still charge its battery. So yes, when it's plugged in via the power plug, it charges and streams at the same time.
When the GF Sat is plugged in via USB, it does not emit a wireless signal but it does charge the battery.

Thanks Alan,
This is indeed a cool device :-) we can do this DIY with different pieces, but packaging them together in nice small package is very nice. I believe it's not just for iPad, it should work for all wifi-enable uPNP/DLNA gadgets to pull in video and music files.
