I'd like to suggest a compromise re: wireless routing and read/write.
One of the strengths of this device is it's ability to store and play back data, and it does the playback extremenly well. As we can see in these forums, it can be modified by folks to also perform storage, so we know the capability is there.
Seagate is unlikely to want to support the scenario since it adds to the headache and cost of supporting a configuration that they didn't mean to sell, that is, read/write and the risk that writes might fail (move the drive, writes get stopped, etc.) It's possible that their drive is simply not strong enough on battery to reliably write, though it can do so easily if externally powered.
Additionally, the multi-radio scenario is probably another of those "hard to support" issues. We all want it (I especially), but it's "complicated".
So, I would suggest that Seagate consider a "standard" and "hacker" set of downloads.
The Standard version works for the basic needs of consumers, read on wireless, simple UI access with the (truly horrible) current interface or something like it, and only core changes as needed.
The Hacker version would include SMB access while remote, dual wireless/passthrough, etc. and remain an UNSUPPORTED download. The forums could be the support system for folks.
The current solution is incomplete, and as an early adopter, we all knew that going in. We've all stuck with this drive hoping that it will be able to do "more" that stream data to an iPad, and have proof that it can.
Right now, if we go through the forum we can cobble together a solution for most of these things, but packaging it together would bring back a lot of goodwill to the community.
I hope Seagate can help us all out with this!

So... it's been a month now since I started this topic, and still no firmware update, no new App update. The same issues remain. Seriously, is anyone working on this? It really seems like you have thrown in the towel on this product. It's interesting that the price has dropped on Amazon, and that several recent reviews have been "from the vine" which is Amazon code for "solicited reviews", wherein the reviewers are chosen and given a product to review.
How about some actual improvements? How about some dates? My patience is wearing very thin!

This.
Yes, I know, we asking much and Seagate will probably not make the "Hacker" set, but I'm eager to get it. At least because of an automatic connection to other networks, Samba is well documented in Telnet topic and it's not so hard to get.

I have passed your requests along for review.
While I can't promise that these will be impletemented, they will certainly be reviewed.

What about the stuff that has already been promised for months? When will it ever be updated?
When?
The purpose of this thread was to ask you to communicate the roadmap (future features and the timing thereof). There are plenty of threads about ideas for new features.
When?

It looks like they just can't make any difference at the moment so they don't even promise. They might have fired the old builders at last and looking for some new ones or... something like that...
It doesn't seem like being in progress anyway....
