Hello everybody.
Anyone knowing how to enable SAMBA or WebDAV or anything else in order to gain access to the disk using standard mounting options?
That would make the GFS a perfect little and autonomous NAS...

I can share SAMBA 3.3.3, from Goflex Net.
It is small (no need in optware) and can be installed on satellite_firmware_xf_1.3.5.015.bin FW.

Hi there,
Thanks for posting the samba.zip 3.0 file much appreciated! just wanted to share my experiences as well.
Overall worked quite well as expected, few things i picked up (hopefully it will save time for other ppl that are keen on using SMB on goflex)
Summary:
SMB Use case using IOS devices (Pass purely for backups on the go)
Performance over SMB:
Performance over default http via browser

My Ideas/next steps (re

If anyone else could post their SMB file transfer MB/Second it would be great to share our experience

This indeed works great (with the additions of raymond L).
I would prefer to switch of the DLNA functionality (SMB is all I need and the indexing takes too much CPU causing the first few minutes stutter in streaming via SMB), how do I do this? Does this impact anything else?

Hi There,
Thanks for the nice feedback.
with re: to DLNA, for my needs i have also disabled this. For reference i had followed the steps described in - http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/2011
Obviously i ignored/skipped sections that had mention lighthttpd and only focus parts where they had mention commenting out DLNA startup.
Hope you find this useful!

Hi there,
Just wanted to quickly give you an update!
Re: DLNA, as discussed DLNA for me is not required (for my use case scenario) i have noted that sbin file is 8MB (
/satellite_app/minidlna/sbin) i have deleted it (backed it up to hdd before hand etc) to save space.
So with SSH + SFTP + Samba (without DLNA) my stats are..
"top" - memory
re: mem - 113 116k used, 12 404k free
"df -h" - space
/dev/root/ size 60mb used: 50.4mb free: 10.1mb

Can anyone advise if there is still a risk of filling up your root drive and bricking using this method? And can this work with the latest firmware?
Thanks...

Altough SMB seems reliable I can't get a full HD MKV movie to stream nice to either my Ipad 1 nore Ipad 3. I tried in Oplayer, Goodplayer and Aceplayer.
The strange thing is that this works quite well for my jailbroken ipad 1 in XMBC (latest version) So even full HD works.
A 720p mkv plays reasonable on the Ipad 3 in goodplayer but if I skip forward audio/video get's out of sync.
Are you getting full HD streaming?
ps. this is also not working with DLNA
