Re: SAMBA on GFS

All credit to Mogarych for the perfect solution to get rid of DLNA and add SMB to the device.

Your post of 04-05-2012 05:42 AM in this tread with GFS-SMB-3.3.3. on firmware 1.3.5.015 finally made the unit work for me as it should.

Seagate should be on their knees thanking people like you, to show how things can be done properly.

Just one little note: there is improved performance with samba if the conf file is amended with: socket options = TCP_NODELAY

With that it is working as a breeze.

Cheers and again THANKS,

P.

Re: SAMBA on GFS and Goodreader

Hi dcdc,

Regarding your post about goodreader, I'm afraid I can't help as I have exactly the same problem. Did you ever find a solution to this issue? I've installed the samba on the goflex all fine and the goflex shows up in goodreader as an SFTP server, I just don't know the user and password for it! Any help would be really appreciated!!

Re: SAMBA on GFS

Hello All,

I really want to try the SMB setup with my GFS, and, think I understand it enough to do it.

However, a post at the begining of the thread caught my attention. It read;

"Can anyone advise if there is still a risk of filling up your root drive and bricking using this method? And can this work with the latest firmware?"

This has me nervous as I, obviously, do not want to brick my GFS.

Is filling up the HDD putting me at rick of doing this while running the SMB mod?

Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated  :smileyhappy:

Re: SAMBA on GFS

Can anyone help me with instructions on how to disable dlna? I'd rather not delete it completely and the link provided earlier in the thread no longer works. It would seem the hackseagate folks now want to charge for the info.

I've scoured the scripts in /etc/init.d but can't find anything and tried update-rc.d -f minidlna remove but it still starts on launch.

Any ideas?

Re: SAMBA on GFS

OK - worked it out.

Just needed to comment out the dlna lines from the startup scripts in rc5.d
