Unable to play iTunes audiobook files

[ Edited ]

app version: 1.1.0.74, FW version: 1.1.0.005a, PC, iPad 2

I'm unable to play .m4b (iTunes audiobook) files through Satellite. The highlight begins and ends, and that's the end of it: I don't get any message about why they won't play.

I don't copy movies (iTunes' "Add Folder to Library") into my iPad's iTunes library--I just have the "Sync movies" option checked--and didn't expect to need to use "Add Folder to Library" with audiobooks either; I only tried it while looking for a fix. For new iTunes movies, all I do is sync the iPad; no movies are transferred.

Thinking it might be a DRM issue, I've gone so far as to sync several audiobooks physically to the iPad. They were copied ("Add Folder to Library"), from my main iTunes library, to my iPad's iTunes library with the iTunes "Copy..." preference checked (I had not expected to need to check the "Copy..." preference). They play in the iPod app--proving that the DRM keys are on the iPad--but they don't play in the Satellite app.

BTW, the "Sync Audiobooks" option is checked in my iPad's iTunes library, although it wasn't checked the 1st time I tried to play the audiobook files through Satellite.

Unexpectedly, when downloaded to Local Content, the audiobook files show up in the "Other" folder. (They won't play from Local Content either.) Also, using the search box, the title of an audiobook file only shows up while in Folder View where I placed it. So far as I've seen up 'til now, the Seagate views get populated with what I put in Folder View. I don't use the top 5 Satellite buttons, but I thought this situation was odd.
