Unable to view copied files in iPad GoFlex Media software

Hi All,

I just purchased the GoFlex Satellite and followed the setup instructions, upgraded the firmware. Already had the Seagate supplied Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X installed for other GoFlex drives.

Installed the Seagate Media Synch for Mac and transferred my music library over to the hard drive, 15,000 songs, could view the music on iPad (iOS5) in GoFlex Media app, but too slow, so deleted the 'Macbook Pro' folder from the drive using finder.

Again using finder, copied some document folders to root and some video files (avi and mp4) to sample videos folder on drive.

However, cannot see any of the new folders or media on the drive through GoFlex Media app? but visible fine through finder.

Have reset all devices, removed app, reinstalled through iTunes, but still cannot view anything on drive other than original supplied media files?

Appreciate any help

Gabriel

Re: Unable to view copied files in iPad GoFlex Media software

Seagate GoFlex Media iPad app is not communicating with Seagate GoFlex Satellite.

Think might be problem with the satellite content indexing system communivating to the app. Went to the satellite through Safari and my folders and media content were visible for a few minutess, then Safari reported the below error:

{"stat":"failed","code":"81","message":"Database Quesry Failed"}

Faulty Satellite? Corrupt filesystem? Unstable software?

GoFlex Media App 1.1.0.82, GoFlex Satellite Firmware 1.1.00.005a and iOS 5.0 (9A334)

Re: Unable to view copied files in iPad GoFlex Media software

Formatted drive with NTFS, copied folder with one mp4 video to root, iPad GoFlex Media app connects to drived but still cannot read anything on the drive.

Safari connects to web application, but for the last hour displays

Database Message The database is being generated. Please wait.

I do not understand, it should not  be this difficult.

Any suggestions out there?

Gabriel

Re: Unable to view copied files in iPad GoFlex Media software

I find the DropBox internet file storage system has good functionality and aceptable performance over 3G, certainly better than what I am experiencing at the moment with the Seagate Satellite hard disk over WiFi.

you already have your solution right there...

"Database Message The database is being generated. Please wait."

there's nothing complicated about waiting for the database to generate.

Re: Unable to view copied files in iPad GoFlex Media software

The indexing software on the Satellite was locked and status message 'database being generated' persisted for several days. The Satellite was restarted, shutdown, powered off and on, but made no difference. The iPad could connect to the Satellite over WiFi, WPA could be enabled or disabled, however, the GoFlex Media App would not update any content information from the drive. Through Safari, none of these functions would work and the status message 'database being generated' was displayed.

Seagate technical support emailed the steps to correctly delete and create a new partition with a MBR and format with NTFS. Support suggested repartitioning the Satellite on Mac was problematic and should be done on a Windows system, not sure about that.

Anyway, after five days of problems, the Satellite is working and perfromance looks good.

Complaints are now the same as the rest of the community:

- Software does not have any advanced file and media management

- Unable to simultaneously connect to the Satellite and internet over WiFi.

In a business environment connectivity is essential.

Great hardware, terrible software.

Hi Gabriel

Agreed! That's why we as a community needs to go for an alternative.. and hopefully seagate will finally "get it"...

Albert, please try the steps listed here and let me know how it all works out.

Please hardwire your GoFlex Satellite, then access the root level of your drive and delete the following three files (make sure your system is set to show all files and folders):

.GoFlexData
.GoFlexData_minidlna
.swap

These three files are what make up the index files of your Satellite. Now restart the unit and wait until the LED turns blue.

Give a hoot. Backup your data on a second storage media.
