Re: ipad 3 test? please!!

It plays just fine.   The Ipad 3 / "new Ipad"  Is the same as the Ipad 2 except the retina display, more memory and a quad core GPU.   There's no need to have a different review for the Ipad 3.  It will do the same as the Ipad 2 and 1080P movies play just fine.

Re: ipad 3 test? please!!

what about diferent 1080p file formats like .mkv .avi streamed through goodplayer or some app like that?

i have had poor 1080p playback on my ipad 2 even in .mp4 format (low frame rate, lipsync) i cant watch a 1080p movie on my ipad 2 natively or with tvout in to my tv

maybe it is just me i dont know

Re: ipad 3 test? please!!

hi i just bought ipad 3 and goflex satellite and i use buzz player($5.49) to watch my videos and it does mkv and all that great.  It also picks up my go flex home drive in buzz player and i watch movies straight off that, and it also picks up any network ie if you have a macbook pro you will be able to watch whatever is stored on that through buzz player on you ipad.  Think it was the best $5.49 i have ever spent!

Re: ipad 3 test? please!!

Simoricho, thanks for the post....I have tons of movies in mkv format and didn't want to take the time to convert all of them.  I would rather just copy on to my goflex satellite and be done with it.

Hey waterman314 are you streaming mkvs to your ipad ok? I also found a player called 8 player which I think has a slightly better interface and it plays avi and mkv etc.. You can download a lite version of it to see if you like it first

Re: ipad 3 test? please!!

Hi All,

I had some issues streaming content via smb/dlna for MKV that are either 720/1080 using IPad 3 (Goodplayer/buzzplayer) i ended up just converting all the files to "MP4" and seem to play fine on my IPad.

Am i the only one..?

[ Edited ]

I just picked up a Satellite a few weeks ago, using it on my iPad 3 is perfect.

As or 1080p, Doing some tests, using GoodPlayer, AcePlayer and the Go Flex app.

GoodPlayer and AcePlayer will play some avi and mkv 720p, (go flex app only supports mp4). Any mp4 720p, all three apps play perfect for me.

As for 1080p, it will only work if it is in mp4 format as it needs to leverage the hardware decoding built in to the iPad.

For most of my 1080p, it is in an mkv file. But if you use a media inspector, you will see that the video format is usually h264.

So what I have been doing is using an app like iFFmpeg, to convert to mp4, but just copying the video stream and converting the audio stream to AAC if it is not already in AAC format. This has the benefit of not taking hours to convert, on my iMac (quad core) it usually only takes a few minutes.

I tested this on a 14Gb 1080p movie and it happily played while streaming from the drive.

As a disclaimer, I CANNOT say with any certainty that this will work for everyone and every file. This has just been my experience over the last few weeks.
