I've been following this forum for many months, this is my first post. From the first day, my pc (with two Momentus XT 500G) has been giving problems of freezing in games and the horrible sound. (Other user video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcQM_7ZusfY
Now, with SD28 all problem of freezeing seems to have solved and the computer seems to do better in general but the beeping noise continue.
The beeping noise is produced by APM (Advanced Power Management). As a temporary solution, we can disable APM and AAM.
Small How TO
1.- You can download CristalDiskInfo 4.1.3 here: http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/i
2.- Once installed, open Function menu and select:
- Resident Style: Hide.
- Wait time startup: 30 sec (Value By default. You can adjust this to start more faster. Depend of your pc, startups programs... etc.)
3.- Now inf Function menu too: Advanced Feature >> AAM/APM Control
- Disable AAM and APM of all yours Momentus XT HD and close this windows.
4.- Finally mark in Advanced Feature >> auto AAM/APM Adaption
Now, when you restart your pc, CristalDiskInfo start automatically and maintains all values. You can see the icons on windows bar.
Other users of this forum say that with the SD28 drives are slow. I would like to know what tool used to test the disks and what are the results for comparison. I used to test the disks CristalDiskMark but i dont know if the values I get are good or bad.

I have an Asus G53SW, I installed a Momentus XT 500GB and did the SD28 firmware and it didn't fix my problem. I am still getting the stuttering/beeping so I will try this solution and report back.

The original Firmware is SD23.
The SD24 is the only firmware that had no beeping sound, but froze all.
SD25 and SD26 the beeping sound is intense.
SD28 freezes far less (next to nothing), and the beeping sound has decreased, but continue.

I was wondering if the stuttering didn't occur on drives with SD23 from factory, updated to SD28.
But this is not the case, since I have this, and no serious freezes/lags as people say.
Can you please tell us if you have ANY SMART errors, such as End-to-End errors or reallocated sectors or Pending Sectors ?
This questions goes out to anyone posting in this thread.

Well, it came with SD23 but I immediately upgraded it to SD25 since that was out by the time I got this drive, and with SD25 I was using this in a desktop. I then got rid of the desktop but kept the drive and put it into the Asus G53SW and started getting beeps, so I did the SD28 upgrade hoping to fix it and it did not work.
The software that disables APM seems to have fixed my issues after a few days of use I am not hearing the beeping and the sudden freezes that the drive had been having.
I really wish that Seagate will offer a way to modify this setting so I don't need a 3rd party software at startup to disable it everytime.
When I got this drive off Newegg is only cost $109, why does it cost $140 now? And what is up with the 750GB costing $240 versus the $190 it was supposed to be?
