Error 53 - Vista incompatability with Shared Storage Drive

Same problem here.  I can see the user accounts but can't access any of the data.  Error code 53.

Everything works fine with XP - just not Vista.

Re: Error 53 - Vista incompatability with Shared Storage Drive

the maxtor software doesn't work in vista. after 10+ hours and a lot of message board surfing, here's the solution that worked for me:

1 - assign your drive a static ip address (in advanced settings window)
2 - in vista, click "start" button
3 - in search box, type \\ then ip address you assigned the drive (\\111.11.111.1)
4 - login screen will pop up for you to enter user id and pw
5 - window will come up with all the folders on your shared drive
6 - right click on folder and select "map network drive", check the "reconnect at login" box

you're all set, drive will map automatically each time you turn on your pc.

Re: Error 53 - Vista incompatability with Shared Storage Drive Seagate GoFlex Home

[ Edited ]

Argh. I have been struggling with this drive for days (about 8 hours in total). I have Vista. I followed wkmorris' advice, but it still fails - and on a lark I changed the assigned address from 192.168.0.200 to 111.11.111.11 and now I can't access the drive at all.

Previously I could not get it to mount or use any features but for accessing through the dashboard to launch the web interface to drag and drop files (I managed to transfer a single folder - 2 GB per transfer limit while using the HTML protocol pretty much means weeks to back up).

Back to CostCo, it seems?

edit: for clarity's sake I am using a Seagate GoFlex Home, STAM2000100.
