I've set up the MSSII sucessfully as backup HDD and print server for my EPSON stylus photo 2100 (2200 out of europe).
The HDD data transfer rate is fast although linked to a 10/100 hub.
On the opposite, the print server seems very slow to respond. When I open the Epson dialog box to change print settings, a can see (on my hub) a "long" cross-talk between the computer and the MSSII before the window opens. Same behavior when I save the changes and close the window.
I've tried to disable some "advanced" printing  options such as bidirectionnal port or spooling but none did improve the situation.
I'm not in a dead end since it's functionnal, but it's a little bit frustrating to have a fast data transfer for the HDD and a sluggish print server.

I do not know if the "flaw" lies in the EPSON driver on in the MSSII electronic/software. In the latter case, everybody using the MSSII as print server should experience the same. User comments or Maxtor/Seagate delegate experience are welcome.

I just installed Shared Storage II today and attached my Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer. I have exactly the same issue. I eventually do get it to print, but it takes minutes to get the print dialog box. I don't see anyone else posting an issue with printing... I wonder if anyone has successfully used the print server feature.

I have the same issue using an HP Business Inkjet 1200. It takes minutes to print sometimes and it appeares that the computer and the printer are "negotiating" extensively before the printjob starts. The storage performance seems fine. This is a frustrating problem and any ideas that could aleviate the problem would be appreciated,

Some additional information, I use Vista and I have the latest software and firmware from Maxtor. The printer has been successfully used before on XP and Vista connected directly to the computer.

I am having the same problem with a 320gb MSSII.  The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R200.  I have 2 computers that use the printer.  One is running Vista, the other Windows XP.  Both are slow to print, but the Vista machine seems to print a little quicker and with less lag on the application I am printing from.  On the XP machine,  the program I use to print usually hangs while it talks to the print server.  It is very annoying.

MSSII firmware is up to date, and printer drivers are recent I think.  Has anyone heard from tech support yet?

Some issue with my MSS and Canon pixma 4000 printer
The computer has Win XP pro SP2 os

I tried to print from the iMac core duo and mac os X 10.5 and the printing process is faster (cups drivers) except for CD printing.
I'm not able to print to CD trough the iMac and Gimp 5.1 drivers

I reinstalled the printer drivers and this issue disappeared for all the computers on my network. There's still a tiny delay (about 10 seconds) compared to using a PC as a print server (which was almost instantaneous) - but that's no big deal.

what have you done in particularly ? Deleted the prnnter and reinstalled it ?

I am experiencing this very same problem. It is extremely annoying, as the print server feature was one of the reasons I bought this thing. I am using an HP Photosmart 7150, and it sometimes takes 10 minutes for the print server to finally print an Outlook calendar. Please help if anyone has a fix.

I am also having this error.

The printing can take a very long time, if it is a small document then it is usually fine. But anything even 10 pages in length can take anywhere from 20 minutes to hours to actually process and print. I sometimes need to restart the printserver to get it to work again.

I have repeatedly reinstalled the drivers, if anything it seems the problem is actually getting worse. It is getting slower and slower to print.
