Hi,

I am having problems with my Maxtor Shared Storage Plus.  It is attached, and I can see the files, but if I try to copy any of them onto my computer I get an error - it seems to time out and take too long.

Up to a couple of months ago it was working ok (always on the slow side but at least I could always get access to my files).  I don't think I have changed much to cause the problems(ie no new antivirus software).  The one thing I did do was the Windows Automatic Update to Vista Service Pack 2 I think.

I got so frustrated that I purchased a new non wireless usb storage drive to see if I could transfer the files directly from the Maxtor Shared Storage Plus onto the USB drive.  But if I try to copy anything it says that access is denied - I have tried to change the permissions on the USB drive but it wont work.

At the moment all of my files are locked on my Maxtor Shared Storage Plus drive.  I really need this fixed!!!!!

Have you tried to remount the drive?

Hi, yes - I diconnected the drive in windows, then re-connected it using the Maxtor drive management software (did this about 6 times) and also pressed the reset button on the drive itself a few times.

If anyone has any ideas I would be VERY appreciative!!!!!

One thing you can check is to see if the speed of you network card is set to auto, I found that setting to auto get you better performance in the past.

Hi, thanks for the advice - how do I check what speed the network card is set to??  I have had a look around but couldn't see where that was stated. 

It isn't a setting I would have changed over the last few months, so isn't a recent change that would be causing the problems but I am happy to have a look at it!

control panel->manage network connections->LAN->properties->configure->link speed->speed & duplex.  It might look different under configure, depend on manufacturer, but somewhere there.

Also, I can't get into the maxtor advanced settings area.

When I use the Maxtor Drive Management  software it opens up the the page with 'Drag and Sort Settings' 'Advanced Settings' etc.  When I click on the advanced settings an internet page

Tries to open up, but it times out an never opens. 

The 'Manage Digital Photos, Music and Videos' page http://192.168.1.33/share/share_upnp_1.asp also has problems opening.

The 'Simple View Storage and Backup Status' and 'Drag and Sort Settings' opens fine.

What happened when you try to access through the website?  Will you be able to get the wed admin page?
